Earlier this year, Apple and AT&T shook up the mobile phone marketplace by releasing the iPhone 3GS and dropping the price on the iPhone 3G to just $99. While competitors continue to adjust, some people are already thinking about Apple's next mobile moves. A lot of speculation has centered around an Apple tablet, but chatter around the next-generation iPhone also received a boost with this Gizmodo report that references a Chinese manufacturers' advertisement for an "iPhone 4 Generation Midboard." Gizmodo noted that the source of the information had been reliable in the past:
China Ontrade calls this the iPhone 4 Generation Midboard. Not very exciting, but the last time they announced a next-generation iPhone part, they were right. A month later, the iPhone 3GS appeared with exactly those parts.
Another issue worth mentioning: AT&T's exclusive iPhone carrier deal with Apple is reportedly set to expire as early as next year. There has already been a great deal of interest -- bordering on pleading -- for Apple to cut a deal with Verizon and release a Verizon iPhone.
If Apple indeed has plans for a next-generation iPhone and/or a Verizon iPhone, the question then becomes when will Apple (or Verizon) makes its intentions public?
Prediction: A 4th-generation iPhone or Verizon iPhone is announced between now and the end of the first calendar quarter of 2010. The announcement must come from Apple, AT&T or Verizon before April 1, 2010, in the form of a press release/press event/public comment or quote in a major media outlet. If Apple does announce a device with Verizon as the carrier, it need not be branded "iPhone" but must have standard mobile phone capabilities.

If the IPhone goes to other networks, it is going to be nothing short of awesome!
VZ fanboys just don't get it. The RF portions and corresponding IPR related radio tech is different for EVDO relative to UMTS. Apple has built and optimized iPhone to support UMTS to allow for maximum global market penetration. With LTE is the works, why would Apple sink $$$ into EVDO support? Also, Voice over LTE will not be supported until at least 2011. For now, Verizon is so focused on Droid as the iPhone killer, the likelihood of a VZ iPhone is low.
New iPhone introductions normally occur in June. Doubt there will be any press release for new iPhone by April.
Disclosure: I have an against bet on this prediction.
VZ FANBOYS LMFAO! Well thats quite a bit of fancy tech information you just spouted off about RF portions and radio tech.............. blahblahblah.....What you fail to realize is your info is not up to date. As of 21DEC VZ wireless has stated it is fully ready to handle the data that will come with an iphone release, and LTE is being bumped up in an effort to get LTE ready to operate by end of 2010. AND since all networks are going to be switching over to LTE except for Sprint why would Apple NOT sink $$$ into that venture? Especially since Iphone sales have slowed dramatically due to saturation and ATTs poor service. At best there may be minor upgrades in 2010 to ATTs iPhone, similar to the last 2 upgrades, with a major overhaul coming in 2011. VERIZON IS THE FUTURE, LONG LIVE VERIZON FANBOYS!!!!
Readers: The arguments are interesting, but could we ditch the "fanboy" accusations and ALL CAPS? They don't add anything to the conversation.
Also, the last poster said:
"As of 21DEC VZ wireless has stated it is fully ready to handle the data that will come with an iphone release"
Can you point us to the source of that information?

Story explores both sides of the 'iPhone on Verizon network' concept-
http://www.techcrunch.com/2010/01/07/verizon-iphone-apple/
Well I am an AT&T Customer and I love my Iphone and AT&T! Verizon had a chance to get the Iphone before AT&T but they seem to be so greedy and ignorant, Steve Jobs went to AT&T! Now Verizon has iphone envy... I was with Verizon for 10 years and I am glad I left. I love AT&T and until I see any official announcement I don't believe Verizon will get the Iphone. Also, whats with the $350.00 termination charges. Sounds like Verizon is holding all its customers hostage....lol... Good luck Verizon..
The lack of support for CDMA for the iPad spells doom for this prediction. IMO, there is absolutely NO WAY for Apple to commit to CDMA radio access technology given that LTE is in the horizon.
@David
Agree. Similarly, the lack of Flash for the iPad portends a negative result for the prediction Adobe Flash on the iPhone?
http://www.thestandard.com/predictions/adobe-flash-iphone
@Tay, agree that the chances of flash support anytime soon is slim at best.
IPhone will never go with Verizon. Now that they've released the Droid with such fanfare, Apple will never sit side by side with a competitive version of their phone. If Verizon actually wanted the IPhone, then they've shot themselves in the foot.
