According to OECD (Organisation for Economic and Co-Op Development), the total number broadband subscribers in the US as of June 2006 was about 56M. As of December 2007, OECD reports that the total is about 70M. As we continue to see acceleration of broadband access adoption, the number will only grow.
This is a prediction that the total number of broadband subscribers in the US will exceed 100M by end of 2008. Judgement will be made when OECD releases the 2008 report.

My concern is that the OECD doesn't seem to generate these reports very regularly, making judgment challenging. Love the topic, however. I'll try to see if IDC will be pulling a similar report.
@Eric, on the contrary, OECD does release regularly (although the frequency may be annually). This prediction is for end of year 2008 so OECD will release a report with that datapoint. What I am not sure is when will the report be released in 2009.
Working on this . . . hunting down the specific report details.
