Inking a search deal and merging are 2 different things.
@Deb, the prediction is actually (see the content of the prediction, not just the title).
Prediction: Microsoft and Yahoo announce a search deal by the end of February. A search deal includes Microsoft buying Yahoo's search business, Microsoft taking a stake in Yahoo, or both parties agreeing on a search partnership.
Note that this already includes buy out scenario.
