AMD spins off manufacturing and fabrication business

The following is a quote from TG Daily,

"Hector Ruiz’ time at the AMD as we know it today is coming to an end. Ruiz recently stepped down from his role as CEO, but kept his position as chairman of the board with the purpose of launching AMD’s Asset Light and Asset Smart strategies, which are expected to split AMD into two entities. And this event is only weeks away.

It is widely expected that Asset Light will part AMD into two companies – one that is led by newly crowned CEO Dirk Meyer and a focus on the development of chip technologies and a manufacturing arm that will take over AMD’s fabs. Our sources indicated that critical decisions are being made at this time and the official announcement of Asset Light and Asset Smart will be made next month."

A favorable judgement can only be made if AMD announces the spin off of the manufacturing and fabrication business no later than September 30, 2008. Otherwise, an unfavorable judgement can be rendered on October 1, 2008.

Looks good to me, but we really need it built into a prediction quickly for it to be worthwhile.

@Bradley, once Team Blog is up, we can publicize it some more hopefully.

Yesterday AMD sold its TV-chip business to Broadcom for $192.8M for $198M. So, they have an injection of new funds, albeit relatively small compared to what they paid. Do you still want to stand by the Sept. 15 date?

@Eric, saw that press release. I have updated to extend the prediction for 2 weeks.

OK, here's the thing. We can't publish this out without quoting sources properly. You have an entire paragraph that is lifted from your reference links. I can go in and rewrite this to show the proper source references, but this is something we have to watch out for.

@Eric, agreed. I was in a creative funk (and lazy) when I posted the suggestion. Go ahead and rewrite and cite quotations properly (assuming it becomes a playable bet). A revised suggestion template would do some good against improper use of quotes from source(s).

@Eric, revised as a cite from TG Daily. Will that work?

This is a moot prediction now. Has just been confirmed by Wall Street that the spin off will occur.
