Akamai introduced its first application acceleration service (Web Application Accelerator) in May 2005, acquired Netli in early 2007 (in part for its protocol optimization technology), and rolled out an IP-based application (IPA) acceleration offering in October 2007. With the company's recent partnership announcement will a hybrid approach to optimizing application performance across the network drive Citrix to buy Akamai?

This is a prediction that Citrix will announce an agreement to buy Akamai (defined as at least a majority share) by Sept 30, 2008.

Hat tip to Lucinda Borovick and Melanie Posey at IDC.
