Excitement over the Palm Pre has been building ever since it was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January (to see some of the features, check out the videos on this page). But nailing down the release date has been hard. An earlier prediction about the Palm Pre being launched by the end of April came and went. Now there are reports that the launch will occur within a week -- May 16 was reportedly leaked as one potential date, and now there's another rumor that says the release date will be announced on May 19 in the Wall Street Journal.

Palm certainly has a good reason to get out the word before the end of the month -- Apple's WWDC event is scheduled to start on June 8, and a lot of attention will be on Apple's iPhone-related announcements.

Prediction: Palm will announce the sale date of the Pre on or before May 19, 2009. The announcement can be in the form of a press release or a statement by a Palm executive in the press.

Comments

Palm doesn't have much time to get this out the door before the deadline passes, but sentiment is still strong that this will pass.

Judged. Sprint made the announcement, repeated by Palm on the official blog this morning:

The release date is June 6. The timing is hardly a coincidence, I believe -- this is just two days before Apple's WWDC, when we are likely to see some iPhone updates and a lot of hype!
