Analyst Shaw Wu, who covers Apple for Kaufman Bros., recently put out a note to clients with an iMac progress report. Wu estimates that a new line of Apple desktops will be available in a few weeks.
Wu's report came out just days after AppleInsider blogger Katie Marsal posted that Apple was warning reseller channels of an iMac shortage. Marsal interprets this bit of news as "a sign.... that the company is drawing down inventory levels ahead of new models."
Prediction: Apple releases its latest version of the iMac by April 1, 2009.

Here in New Zealand, the Apple store was offering a special whereby you could upgrade to ilife09 for only the cost of shipping if you purchased a new imac - - the offer was valid from January 6, 2009 until March 28, 2009 but now appears to have disappeared. I would suspect from this that we may indeed see the new imac before April.
Thats a standard off for iLife09 across all regions....
Go back to playing with Dora and rescue a monkey......
Don't buy the next imac.......if it doesn't have USB 3.0.......as Apple slowly kills firewire......you don't want to be stuck with a computer with USB 2.0........It may have a kick ass chip. However, in the long run......you need better ways to transfer your projects and data!!!!!
I disagree, transfer of data is moving further away from wired solutions. I have a Time Capsule and transfer data to and from that all the time wireless. Cameras are evening getting into the act with wi-fi capabilities. Not to mention I print wireless as well. USB 3.0 is an attempt to breathe new life into the USB technology. Most of us do fine with the speeds 2.0 gives us.

@Tay, I saw that too. Announcement may be imminent (if rumor is indeed true but there are conflicting information in the rumor mill) but will it be on sale by end of March? My suspicion is an April/May launch at earliest but no later than June 2009.

@Yi-Wyn, this bet should have a closing date of no later than 4/1. It currently has a May 29 date!
Rumor of the event date-

Just to be clear, an announcement alone does not satisfy judgment criteria. The new iMac MUST BE on sale by April 1.
Readers: This prediction has been judged, based on the new Apple product releases today:
Apple revamps the iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro with no fanfare
The new iMacs are being sold in the online Apple Store.
