Late in 2007, rumors began to surface about a possible acquisition of SAP by Microsoft. The two companies denied such rumors.
Would such an acquisition make sense now that Microsoft has apparently moved on from the Yahoo debacle? Is it time to think about it again? There are plausible arguments for it.
Prediction: SAP will be acquired by Microsoft by the end of 2008. Such an acquisition would need to be formally announced (not completed) by end of 2008 for a favorable judgment. Bets will close on December 22, 2008, while judgment will occur on January 1, 2009, unless events dictate an early judgment.

Here are some details described at http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1000000121,39160417,00.htm about MSFT abandoning SAP acquisition. It was a multitude of reasons ...
1) Acquisition would prove too complex (result of their due diligence analysis)
2) It may have compromised MSFT backing of its service partners.
3) Change of focus on small business markets
It is unlikely that MSFT will reengage on SAP acquisition unless there are significant market factors change.
Never. Not MSFT. A Ferrari will never become a Fiat.
