Rumors that an iPhone is coming to the Verizon network are brewing again.
The ITExaminer.com notes, "Deep throats in Apple claim that Iphones for Verizon Wireless will be announced soon.
While the deal is so secret that Apple will not even hint that it is happening, the outfit had been trying to find EVDO and CDMA Engineers for months in their online Iphone job postings. While EVDO could cover a wide range of 3G skills, it is more likely that Apple is specifically after the Verizon Wireless standard."
Prediction: Apple announces by June 30, 2009 the availability of an iPhone on the Verizon Wireless network. A Verizon iPhone does not need to be on sale at the time of the announcement.

5reasons it won't happen
I really hope so, I am a Verizon costumer very happy with the coverage, but not so much by the phone selection. If the iPhone came to Verizon I would buy a couple in a heartbeat. I will be taking my business somewhere else if Big Red does not come out with some cool phones come out this year. Storm Sucks!
I live in the middle of Kansas where we don't have access to AT&T premium services so I can't get an iPhone no matter how badly I want it. if they get the iPhone Verizon's merger with Alltel will mean we can get them in rural Kansas finally.
Come on Apple and Verizon! I've been waiting for an iphone on Verizon ever since the initial release of the first gen. I just can't make myself switch to ATT just for the iphone as all my family and close friends are all Verizon customers as well, I can say however that if I could buy an iphone for Verizon I would gladly pay a large sum for the phone itself. Time is running out however....all of us have waited and our contracts are now expired and month-to-month. If they don't make the move soon I predict large migrations of customers from Verizon to ATT just for the iphone. I've tried all the other pda, blackberry, smartphone, etc out there and nothing comes close. Please oh please, I've got a lot of cash burning a hole in my pocket, let me spend it! =)
I'm now month-to-month with Verizon and still have no desire to switch to AT&T because their lack of cell phone coverage in one of two places where we spend our time is not worth it. I would stand in long lines to buy an iPhone with Verizon service. Just waiting for that day! Hope it comes soon -- I'm holding out.

I'll agree on that one!!! Oh, and I agree with the Storm, I want to kick a field goal with it! I had an iphone and got rid of it 'cause I live in TX and all my friends and family in Cali all have Verizon, and AT&T coverage sucks in Houston!
I love the iPhone but hate AT&T too much to switch. If the iPhone becomes available on Verizon, I will be the first one in line.
I have both a verizon acct and an iphone, service is comparable depending on where you are at....getting ready to ditch verizon after being with them for close to 15 years....their phones suck, their customer service lately REALLY sucks and their prices are no more competitive than ATT.

I hope this is true, now I will have to wait. I have been shopping in ATT stores and really like the IPhone applications and features. i would prefer not to switch over to ATT but if I have to I will. Hopefully the applications will work on the Verizon IPhone without restrictions. GO VERIZON

Tay Bass, there is a link on that link you posted saying that Apple will eventually go to other carriers to get more customers in the US market. It's not a matter of if but a matter of when. Hopefully that when is next year. Apple's coverage is awful. Verizon is far superior especially in the DC area.
@Tony, at best, you might find an LTE-based iPhone in 2011. AT&T will not have exclusivity by then and there is sufficient traction on LTE deployments worldwide.
This is a tough one.
First there were the rumors of negotiations with Apple about carrying the iPhone once the AT&T exclusivity deal expired, but now the carrier is allegedly working on an iPhone competitor with Microsoft (see http://www.thestandard.com/news/2009/04/28/verizon-microsoft-plan-launch...).
On the other hand, I suppose it's possible for Verizon to play both Microsoft and Apple ... and bring Google Android devices into the network, too.

Apple is and has been passing up on a lot of money and even though there bottom line is not hurting because of it, I am sure they are noticing what they could be making. So, an "exclusive contract" can and I believe will be broken. Ya a law suite will follow and back and forth appeals but when it is all said and done apple will be sued for a lot of money but it will not compare to what they will make by doing so.
Ya I want the ipone so badly but i dont have survie in Rancho Santa Fe (CA) only a few houses have ATT survie and my house isn't one of them not to mention all of my friends and family are on verizon and ATT makes u pay to talk to them!!!!!! i dont want to do that my phone bill would be huge(its already huge... but that is besides the piont i dont want to spend more.)
I have been wanting the iphone since it came out, now that it comes to Verizon i can get it. I recently got the blackberry storm and i have to say i am not happy with it at all, I hope this is a true rumor.

Dude u r soooo WRONG. Verizon is one of the biggest companies in the country, probably in the world. If apple signs the contract with them, they would get about 90-100% improvement of sales. There is no way Apple could turn away from that!

If Verizon does release an iPhone, I will camp, storefront to get one first... I have always wanted the iPhone ever since launch day of the 1st Gen. iPhone. I live in rural Tennessee, where only Verizon get's service, so even if I got the iPhone, I couldn't use it...I am now eligible for my annual upgrade, I will wait until July 1st, if there is no Verizon announcement by then, I will probably just buy a Blackberry Storm, as bad as I hate to. Clickable Touch Screen = EPIC FAIL...
I've waited a long time for the Verizon / iPhone marriage to happen. If it's not available by Christmas, that's it for me. I'll finally switch to AT&T. Have had 5 phones with Verizon for over 10 years. Those guys should be sending that army of techs in the commercials to follow me around.
i think this may happen but if it does, since the iphone is currently carried by at&t, verizon should let at&t carry one of their popular phones such as the voyager or one of the enV phones.
I don't see this happening. Apple is using Verizon to drive up the price AT&T will have to pay for the exclusive rights to the iPhone.
I would love to have the iPhone, but I will not get one until it is with Verizon. I love Verizon's service and hate at&t's service. But once they do decide to go with Verizon, I might try to be the first in line to obtain one!
I would love to have an I-Phone, however, I am not going to change my server to AT&T from Verizon Wireless. Verizon's coverage is superior to that of AT&T. Most of my family have Verizon and then my parents have AT&T and I never have dropped calls like they do. Now, for the record...Apple should know how much Verizon's customers like them and if they want our business with their I-Phone, then they should make it available through Verizon as well as AT&T. AT&T couldn't get customers to stay loyal or they wouldn't have to have exclusive phone rights... What a way to get people to change to your network, not for what AT&T does for them but because they carry a phone people like. So, keep the I-phone and keep AT&T... and keep your roll over minutes... I like my non droppage rate, thanks.............
I have a Verizon cell phone, and just ADORE the i phone. That would be awesome. I have thought about switching to AT&T, but, if Verizon were to have i phones, I would have to spend a bunch of money to switch back. I there is too many dead zones in AT&T, and verizon can help with that.

Judged negative. Lots of people want a Verizon iPhone, but no such announcement was made by the end of June.

I really hope the iphone comes out sooner than later for Verizon. I am very happy with the phone selections for Verizon. especially the new ones out. But unfortunatly everybody wants the iphone and AT&T is all about their iphone cause with out that they sure the heck wouldnt have any customers:) please CELL PHONE GODS Bring one home for Verizon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm I had no problem dropping verizon for att just for the Iphone!!!!!! It was by far the best phone I have EVER had, never had a proble with att either just I moved and they didnt cover my area! I had to move to verizon and they have such GAY phones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tried every blackberry with best buys 30 day trade and they can not AT ALL compete with APPLE IPHONE!!!!!!!!!! COME ON VERIZON GET WITH THE PROGRAM. I Will be with VERIZON for life if you can seal the deal. If not I am gone as soon as I can!!
Man I am only seconds away from sealing the deal with getting the Iphone. When is verizon going to bring the Iphone home for its customers? Currently I have verizon for family and business, but now its time to get my personal phone and I thinking about getting the iphone. Send your thoughts!

Gizmo I feel your pain my brotha.. I'm not sure if you've made the switch but I google this topic at least 4 times a week searching for some concrete news. I'll tell why I haven't the switch is because the price plan for AT&T is preposterous. They're locking their customers in for a 2 year plan, with no insurance on the phone, & an inferior network. It's really tough but I'm exercising patience and not giving in until it finally occurs. And it will eventually happen.. my prediction would be the summer to fall 2010. The next phone for VZ that I'm waiting on is the Pre schedules for 1q 2010. This is the next decent phone coming this yr..

I want the iphone too, and I'd rather stay with Verizon (because of the service) but if Verizon doesn't produce an iphone by the time my contract runs out, it's going to be Bye Bye Verizon.

I completely agree with you Mr Kuan. I too have Verizon, and I love the service, however I don't like the phones they have to offer. I currently have the Verizon Storm, and its NOT worth the money!! . I'd wished that I never got it, it never works when you need it the most. . Verizon is the best carrier in the world. If verizon gets the iphone, att wil go bankrupt and will be gone forever. if it wasnt for that phone, they would have been gone years ago. verizon will get the iphone in 2010. byebye att.. all of your customers will go to verizon since they coverage is SO much better…. i cant wait till they get it, i will wait in line for a month if i need to, to get it. i will be the 1st person in the world to get that phone. i promise. I hope they get it soon. I'll add my voice to the Pleas[e] ...Please Verizon: take all the lessons from AT&T's fumbling and the clear message about the public's Willingness To Buy - there is NO WTB QUESTION here - and build a network to support all of us AT&T Users who are ready to jump. 2 points from me: [1] I had a V1 iPhoney and spiked it after the umpteenth dropped call one busy Friday afternoon and [2] I just spent the week in San Francisco with my BB Curve - still with AT&T - and the EDGE service - as well as my colleagues' 3G iPhoney service - was abysmal. Network 'Busy' signals, 'call failed' messages with multi-bars showing, and dropped calls were constant: 2-3 such annoyances for every call made/attempted. AT&T should just quit pretending, because they have obviously quit trying to run a network that functions, let alone 'provides service', in SF.
Verizon: this is your chance to skim the cream of AT&T's customers and put T back into the primordial garbage dump from which this miserable excuse of a mobile operator has reared its ugly head.
Apple: you need to do the deal with Verizon because continuing AT&T's monopoly will drive everyone away to other handset hardware and the iToons tie-in won't be enough to overcome the inadequacy of AT&T's support of your otherwise wonderful device. The problem is that there is no telephoney app in the App Store. You need it, to complete the offering and maintain your market power. Announce the deal before Xmas so nobody will be tempted to buy anything until the Verizon deal is live. I'll wait, and I suspect many others will too.
