Judgment, May 7, 2008:  Incredibly, Grand Theft Auto IV's first-week sales broke records beyond belief.  The official press release is here.  The community correctly predicted that GTA would break $400 million, and this is being judged at S$100.  -- The Industry Standard

This one'll have to be a quickie...

Variety is citing industry sources claiming that based on pre-sale numbers and shipments to retailers that GTA IV may clear $400,000,000 in sales during its first week on the market. It is due for release on April 29th. This would far exceed the current video game record holder, Halo 3 (with ~$300,000,000).

This prediction will be worth S$100 if reported gross sales for the first week of release of GTA IV are $400,000,000 or greater. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117984089.html?categoryid=20&cs=1

Wow, this jumped over 30% in one day. Some big money moving in here!

We'll have to wait until some official figures are released. Anyone who sees them first, shoot them my way (click on the Reply link here and I'll be notified). If you find it before I do, and send us a note, I'll credit the first person with S$10,000.

Looks like this is a done deal. According to the NYTimes, Take-Two Interactive will announce first-week sales at a whopping $500 million! Will judge as soon as it's official on May 7.

It's on Take Two's website under news. Sounds official to me...

Yep, that's the PR I was waiting for. Thanks, Bradley.

No problem.

Incidently, on the "my predictions" page the total won/lost for a prediction doesn't calculate correctly.

Taking my account as an example, on this prediction I bought in early at 55%, cashed out at 78% (needed the money elsewhere), bought back in at 78% and 82%, and then cashed out at delist at 100%. The gain displayed appears to only account for the gain on the position held at close, not the gain/loss from the earlier transactions.

I noticed that, too. Looking into it.

:)
