Facebook tried to buy Twitter last year. Facebook reportedly offered to buy the hot microblogging service last year for $500 million in stock and some cash, but talks between the two social networking companies ended in November.
Perhaps it's time for Facebook to take a hard look at Yammer, a Twitter-like service for businesses. Yammer would be considerably cheaper to buy. Yammer charges companies to use its service. Yammer would also help Facebook go after LinkedIn in the enterprise social networking market.
Prediction: Facebook buys Twitter-like service Yammer by the end of 2009.

I think the news that Facebook is buying FriendFeed throws some cold water on the Yammer prediction.
