Apple netbook announced at Macworld 2009?

Judgment on January 6, 2008:  This announcement was not made during the 2009 SF keynote, which the community correctly predicted.  -- The Industry Standard

Original prediction: 

Netbooks are taking off.

However, Apple so far has demurred when it comes to entering this growing category.
 
At Apple’s October notebook launch event, Jobs referred to the netbook market as “nascent” and said that Apple is taking a “wait-and-see” approach.
 
Later that month on Apple’s 3Q earnings conference call, Steve Jobs was again asked about the possibility of an Apple Netbook. He responded, “We don’t know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk”.
 
For the time being Apple has chosen instead to drop the price on one of their entry level macbook to just under $1,000.
 
But how much longer can Apple afford to ignore the netbook market given their growing popularity and forecasts that netbooks offer one of the few sales growth categories for computers in the current economic climate?
 
This is a prediction that Apple will announce a netbook at the 2009 MacWorld conference, scheduled for January 5-9, 2009. For this prediction to come true the device that is announced must be priced below Apple’s current lowest priced laptop of $999. Further, it must have typical netbook qualities, such as a lower power processor than other macbooks, a keyboard, and smaller overall size footprint. A tablet mac would not meet the criteria of this prediction. The device does not need to be available for sale at the time of MacWorld, it only needs to be announced.
