One in 10 MPs are now using micro-blogging service Twitter, says Tweetminster.

According to the service, which is designed to connect users of the micro-blogging service with MPs that are tweeting, 13 ministers and three whips are among the 64 MPs that currently use Twitter.

Tweetminster revealed that of the 64 MPs on Twitter, 63 percent are Labour, 22 percent are Liberal Democrat and 13 percent are Conservative. The service also said that several MPs 'tweeted' during the election of the new speaker John Bercow.

"We're delighted to see so many MPs embracing Twitter and connecting with people, and that TweetMinster is contributing to a process that is making politics more approachable and open. Six months ago there were only 4 MPs on Twitter," said Alberto Nardelli, Co-founder of TweetMinster.
