Apple does not announce a new mobile processor at WWDC 09?

A report in Forbes says that there is "no doubt" Apple is working on a mobile processor, citing the company's purchase of PA Semiconductor last April and other evidence, including its interest in hiring a developer with experience in the NEON extended instruction set used in ARM processors.

However, Forbes says analysts believe the company is many months away before any product based on a new mobile processor is ready. The article says if a new iPhone is announced at WWDC, "Apple will most likely turn to a faster version of the application processor it now buys from Samsung."

Prediction: Apple will not announce a new mobile processor for the iPhone or any other new Apple device at this year's World Wide Developers Conference, which runs from June 8 to June 12. For this prediction to be judged favorably, Apple must not mention any specific plans for a new (as opposed to updated) mobile processor. A bet against this prediction means you believe that Apple will announce a new chip to power the iPhone/iPod Touch or other Apple mobile device.
