Original prediction: Without question, the iPhone has revolutionized the wireless phone industry. Since its announcement almost two years ago, many diehard Verizon wireless subscribers have lamented the lack of a Verizon iPhone and been generally disappointed by the attempts of Apple’s competitors to deliver a Verizon “iPhone killer”.

Famously (or perhaps infamously), Steve Jobs & Apple actually approached Verizon first about the iPhone but were unable to come up with a deal. Enter AT&T (formerly Cingular), and the rest is history.

It has been reported that AT&T’s contract with Apple makes it the exclusive carrier for the iPhone for anywhere from two years (2009 expiration) to as long as five years (2012 expiration), to most recently reported three years (into 2010).
