Developers can't offer discounts on the iPhone App Store

Applications on the iPhone App Store can't be discounted according to one developer's Twitter feed.

Iconfactory, the minds behind the excellent Twitterrific Twitter client for Macs, introduced an iPhone/iPod Touch that was introduced for the App Store launch today.

In response to customer questions, the Iconfactory team Twittered "there cannot be any discounts for the App Store. Ask Apple why they won't let us do that."

Well, that's what I did! Of course, I didn't actually get through to someone at Apple PR -- they don't pick up their phones, natch -- but I did leave a message asking for comment.

So, unless Apple changes policy (which is possible if enough developers complain), we're all stuck paying full price for our iPhone apps.
