Will Carly Fiorina selected as McCain's running mate?

Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, has been a high-profile supporter of John McCain's presidential campaign in the run-up to the 2008 election.

Show your support

As a result, there has been speculation that she may soon be tapped for the VP slot on the McCain ticket. If true, this would be an incredibly interesting strategic move.

For starters, Fiorina’s impressive leadership credentials in Silicon Valley and the business community at large would quickly prop up a perceived McCain shortcoming, i.e. his “self-admitted weak grasp of economics” – not to mention his lack of technology expertise.

Secondly, having a prominent and well-respected woman on the ticket would serve to rebuff the “newness” and calls for change that the Obama campaign offers. Like Obama, she is a Washington outsider; she lacks a deep political track record, thus leaving less to be scrutinized by the mainstream media.

On Meet the Press a few weeks ago, Fiorina dodged the VP question, but the Financial Times' piece today finally confirms her interest, and is especially interesting given the left-leaning Silicon Valley's established preference for Obama whose tech policies have for the most part been met with applause. Fiorina would bring strong tech and business savvy to a ticket that could use a little of both.

This is a prediction that John McCain will select Carly Fiorina as his running mate in the general election in November. Let the community decide. Place your bets!
