WWDC Coverage LIVE: 3G iPhone confirmed for July 11th

We're here in San Francisco (sort of) for Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference. We're monitoring all the liveblogs for the best coverage and will bring you updates as they happen.

11:50 am: The keynote is over. The Industry Standard will have additional updates, news, and analysis for both WWDC and the iPhone.

11:44 am: New pricing. $199 for 8GB and $299 16GB. Available July 11th in 22 countries. 16GB available in White. Maximum price around the world is $199.

11:42 am: Playing "It's a Small World." Deals in lots of countries. China, Japan, Australia, 70 countries total over "next several months".

11:38 am: GPS built-in. Can track you as you move. Location data from cell towers, wi-fi networks and GPS.

11:37 am: Old talk time: 8 hours. New talk time: 10 hours. Data: 5 hours. Video: 7 hours. Audio : 24 hours.

11:35 am: How does it address challenges? 3G is fast. Edge is slow. To download a file: 3G: 21 seconds. Edge: 59 seconds. Approaching WiFi speeds. iPhone is 36% faster than comparable 3G phones (Nokia N95 and Treo 750).

11:33 am: iPhone 3G. Thinner, black plastic back, solid metal buttons, same display, flush headhone jack, better audio.

11:31 am: 56% of people that wanted an iPhone didn't get one because of price.

11:30 am: Steve talking about iPhone's first birthday. Photos of last year's lines. Users love them. 6 million sol. Challenges: 3G, enterprise, 3rd-party apps, more countries, more affordable.

11:28 am: Replaces .Mac. $99 a year, includes 20GB of space.

11:25 am: MobileMe web apps are virtually identical to offline apps.

11:17 am: Outlook on Windows, Mail, iCal, Address Book on Mac. Email address @me.com. Photos synced over the air too. Fancy Web 2.0-ish access for all apps in browser. iDisk integrated too.

11:15 am: "Exchange for the rest of us." Phil Schiller: ActiveSync = ActiveStink. Macs, PC's and iPhones. Syncs contacts, email, calendars. Everything is up to date, all push. Data synced automatically both ways, on the fly.

11:14 am: Now for something "entirely new." MobileMe!

11:13 am: Apps can be distributed it to 100 authorized iPhones ad hoc.

11:11 am: If app is less than 10MB, it can be downloaded through the cell network. Otherwise, requires computer or wi-fi. Available in 62 countries. Enterprise can distribute apps just to their employees.

11:10 am: Wireless download support for App Store. Automatic updates, 70/30 split for developer and Apple on revenue. Fairplay wrapped, no charge for free apps.

11:09 am: iPhone 2.0 ships in July. Free for iPhone owners, $9.99 for iPod Touch owners.

11:07 am: New features: Scientific calculator (big applause), iWork document support (view not write), bulk delete and move for messages, save images from email to photo app, parental controls, new language support. Here comes worldwide!

11:05 am: Works over-the-air or on wi-fi. Functionality won't be available until September, but will be available to developers soon. Steve is back!

11:01 am: #1 request from developers, deveopers want a way to send notifications to apps that aren't running. The "wrong way" would be to allow background processes. New API: Push notification service for all developers. Notifications can include sounds, custom messages (like SMS currently). Uses Apple servers to push, only one consistent connection. Very scalable.

10:58 am: Last demo! 3-D fantasy adventure game. "A better experience than other mobile gaming devices." Final game ready by September.

10:57 am: Another medical app "MIMvista" allows for imaging display. Showing CAT scans, etc. Where's the Google Health demo?

10:54 am: Medical app "Modality" for med students. To see where all the parts of the body are, interactively. Kind of neat, if you're a med student.

10:52 am: Applause starting to die down. Audience getting sick of app demos too.

10:50 am: This is right up my alley. Major League Baseball app, lets you monitor games in progress. Real-time video highlights, delivered right after the play happens. Available at launch of the store.

10:48 am: More app demos. Independent developer created "Band." Virtual piano, bass, drums, etc. Sort of like GarageBand. Yes, Apple. We get it. You can do great things on the iPhone.

10:47 am: Guy at the Apple store is really excited about Personal Shopping. "This is great, you've answered all my questions."

10:44 am: More app demos. Enigmo from Pangea, physics game. The Mac version is actually a lot of fun. Then 3-D racing game Cro-Mag Rally. iPhone is the steering wheel, uses Wii-style steering.

10:39 am: Associated Press: Mobile News Network. Uses locatin API to show nearby sources, news video and photos directly in app. Report on news yourself, including photos and text. Free at the App Store.

10:38 am: TypePad app ties into camera. Take pictures and upload right to your blog. Big applause. Very cool. Free at launch of App Store (though you still have to pay for TypePad, natch). WordPress tells Gizmodo their app is coming within the next week or two.

10:35 am: Loopt: Location-aware social network. Displays a map that shows where your friends currently are. What's the point without GPS? Works with Loopt users on other platforms. Available for free at App Store launch. Guess Apple isn't that concerned about iPhone apps being free (as per rumor), if they're demoing a free app.

10:33 am: Yahoo! Live stream mentioned below is offline. Problems with Yahoo! Live or Apple Security?

10:32 am: iPhone is most popular way to access eBay from a mobile phone. Demoing "Auctions". Started work on it five weeks ago. Shows your auctions, auctions you're bidding on. Looks very slick.

10:30 am: App demo time. Sega demonstrating Super Monkey Ball. Uses tilt to control. Available at App Store launch for $9.99.

10:26 am: Lots of SDK talk. Not a consumer presentation. Lots of cool iPhone apps coming, I suspect.

10:21 am: Talking about how great the SDK is and how easy it is to use. Plenty more info coming this week.

10:17 am: iPhone OS X has same kernal as Mac OS X. Apple opening in-house APIs to everyone.

10:15 am: Search for contacts! Filters as you type, like iTunes. Finally.

10:12 am: First company demoed? Disney, of course. 10.6 discussions after lunch for NDA'd folks only.

10:10 am: MS Exchange integration out of the box. Cisco Secure VPN. Big enterprise push. 35% of Fortune 500 in the beta test. Surprising no one has leaked this.

10:08 am: Three parts to Apple: Mac, Music, iPhone. New OS X is "Snow Leopard." More info on that this afternoon. This keynote is about iPhone. 250,000 people downloaded SDK.

10:06 am: Steve is on stage.

10:05 am: The lights have dimmed.

10:03 am: I'm at the Palo Alto Apple Store. Store employees are excited. "Guess what just started 3 minutes ago?" "The wait is almost over!"

10:01 am: Apple board member Al Gore is in attendance.

09:55 am: Apple 2.0 had an interesting interaction with Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal:

Apple 2.0: "Do you have one yet?"

Mossberg: "What? I can't hear you."

They think (and I agree) that is code for "Yes, I have the new iPhone but I can't tell you about it."

09:50 am: MacRumors says people are being let into the hall at Moscone.

09:45 am: All of The Standard's WWDC coverage to date, and going forward ...

09:37 am: A supposed live audio feed from the WWDC keynote, courtesy of iPhone Alley, but all I am hearing now is classical music.

09:31 am: Even cabbies are getting excited about a 3G iphone

08:55 am: Nothing much happening so far, though Gizmodo reports that Apple's PR team had a team huddle this morning that was "kind of cute."
