Zain Sierra Leone has launched its Blackberry Solution for post-paid and prepaid professionals, corporate clients and individuals to let them access mobile services.
"By unveiling the BlackBerry, we are giving numerous international NGOs and multinationals the opportunity to access all the functionalities they are used to having in their offices," said Dan Kaboyo, Zain's head of marketing and customer care.
Marketed as "your office in your pocket," the launch of BlackBerry Enterprise Solutions in Sierra Leone is the result of a partnership between Zain, Emaitac Mobile Solutions (EMS) and Research In Motion, according to Zain CEO for Central Africa Region Steve Torode.
The BlackBerry was launched in Sierra Leone to improve the productivity and efficiency of subscribers, he said.
With the Zain BlackBerry service, customers will be able to access a wide range of features including unlimited access to corporate and personal e-mails, high-speed Internet service, organizers for appointments and schedules, and multimedia features, he added.
Speaking before launching the service, Minister of Trade and Industry David Carew said that Sierra Leone is witnessing an improved technology that will "increase our speed with which we do things and change the ways we conduct our affairs."
Although Zain SL planned to offer the Blackberry Bold 9000 Smartphone and the BlackBerry Curve 8300 to its customers, sources from the telco's customer service department said that only the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is available at the moment for US$770, which includes $70 for a month's Internet subscription.
Traveling Zain BlackBerry customers can use the service within the One Network coverage area.
