Following news that Apple has been touting its rumoured tablet around media outlets, in order to encourage them to adopt the platform, it has now emerged that Apple has been showing the new device to analysts.
ITIC analyst Laura DiDio has claimed that the Apple tablet will come in several different models featuring a 10-12in screen, it will offering a variety of internet connections from Wi-Fi to 3G, and will offer a webcam for video conferencing.
She told CNN: "The tablet will change the game, because Apple will throw down the gauntlet at the competitors, and force them to follow along."
In October, the Sydney Morning Herald revealed that Apple has sent specifications of the device to the companies in an effort to sound out whether they would be interested in delivering their content to the tablet.
That report claimed however: "The tablet is tipped to be a larger version of the iPhone. It is small enough to carry in a handbag but too big to fit in a pocket. It will have a touch screen and be targeted at users who mainly want to surf the web, read books and newspapers or watch movies."
In addition New York Times' Executive Editor, Bill Keller spoke of an Apple slate in a speech to staff last month.
During the speech, Keller made a reference to the Times' strategy for mobile devices. "We need to figure out the right journalistic product to deliver to mobile platforms and devices," Keller said. "I'm hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate, or whatever comes after that."
In addition, a patent has recently emerged for what could be described as an Apple Tablet. Apple has filed a patent with the US Patent & Trademark office for a computer system where data is entered via a pen-based input. The accompanying images certainly hint that this is the outline for the eagerly anticipated Apple Tablet.
