Nortel has recently won public sector deals in several countries across Asia Pacific that cover a range of emerging networking technologies including UC, Ether routing switches, contact centers, and virtual collaborations, the vendor said Friday.

The firm noted that it has seen recent success with public sector investments in Australia and New Zealand, greater China, India, South East Asia, and Japan.

For instance, postal, banking and insurance services provider Taiwan Post deploys Nortel Metro Ethernet to enable real-time information backup, access, and recovery and thus ensuring business continuity, said Nortel.

In China, Nortel Metro Ethernet offerings helps Shanghai Metro Line 1 Trains provide reliable services.

"Government agencies and departments face their very own set of business, policy and network technology challenges," said François Lançon, leader, enterprise, Nortel Asia/EMEA. "Nortel is working with governments and public sector institutions across the Asia Pacific region to improve communications and collaboration, helping governments in their quest to better serve citizens, businesses and their community, and protecting government information, critical infrastructure and key assets."
