Apple chief executive Steve Jobs returned to work Monday for the first time since taking medical leave in January.

Jobs, who suffered pancreatic cancer in 2004, was last week reported to have received a liver transplant.

Apple did not announce Jobs return to front line duty, but cited him as chief executive officer on a press release boasting 1 million sales of the next generation iPhone in the first weekend they were on sale.

"This effectively tells us he is back on the job," Yair Reiner, an analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. told the Financial Times.
