A user on Amazon's Kindle Community discussion boards took a survey: If you own a Kindle, how old are you? Setting aside questions about the poll's methodology and rigor, the results collected are clearly skewed toward middle-agers and away from the young.
ZDNet writer Andrew Nusca made the following table from responses:

It's possible that younger readers aren't participating in the forum, but still: It makes sense that few teenagers would spend $359 on a Kindle, or ask for one as a gift compared to, say, an iPhone or Playstation.
The most interesting responses, Nusca notes, are older readers with arthritis or weakening eyesight who find the Kindle easier to handle and/or read than a library of books.
Now, if only Amazon could figure out how to get college students to replace their pricey textbooks, that might boost the numbers of young users.
