In the wake of significant financial losses, the Sony Ericsson mobile partnership may be on the rocks.
According to the German publication Manager-Magazin.de, Ericsson wants out of the partnership. InformationWeek reported that Sony has agreed in theory to buy out the Swedish company's share, but does not currently have the funding.
What would be the impact of such a breakup? Infoweek's Eric Zeman notes that Sony would lose Ericsson's wireless expertise, for one.
The two parties reportedly are in talks to work out a plan. A Sony Ericsson North America spokesperson The Standard spoke with late Wednesday said, "Ericsson does not comment on speculation and rumors. At this time, we are conducting business as usual."
