Apple has sold 9,312,000 iPhones in the first 9 months of 2008. Last year, the company said it wanted to sell 10 million iPhones in calendar year 2008. In Q2, the quarter ending in March, Apple sold 1,703,000 iPhones. In Q3, the quarter ending in June, Apple sold 717,000 iPhones -- the drop due to the difficulty in obtaining 2.5G iPhones before the June announcement of the 3G iPhone.
In the earnings call today, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer said that including iPhone sales thus far in the current quarter, Apple has sold more than 10,000,000 iPhones since January 1.
With the impressive success of the iPhone 3G in the September quarter, Apple hit its goal with 2 months worth of sales, including the holiday season, still left.
