The Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death, hereby known as the RROD, has reared its ugly red head again Thursday, this time in the form of a class action lawsuit filed by disgruntled consumers in California.

The lawsuit alleges that an excessive number of Xbox 360 consoles have experienced hardware failures, aka the RROD. Perhaps more damning is the lawsuit's allegation that Microsoft knowingly manufactured faulty Xbox 360 consoles, and then concealed the failure rate in order to better compete with The PlayStation 3 and Wii.

As evidence, the lawsuit presents articles from a variety of gaming publications, including dailygamesnews.com, VentureBeat, Digital Media and Yahoo! Each of these articles states that Microsoft knew as far back as November 2005 that over 50% of Xbox 360 consoles were defective (emphasis added because that's an insane number in an industry where 3% or so is the accepted norm).

Lastly, the lawsuit seeks a court order that would force Microsoft to pay off the disenfranchised Xbox 360 owners with all profits that it made from sale of the console. A kind of RROD refund program, if you will.

Stupidly ridiculous, as the Xbox 360 RROD error is fixed for free, and anyone with their Xbox 360 in tatters also gets compensated when it's fixed.

Seriously, if people are whining that they cant play Xbox for just 2 weeks, then some people ought to get a life.

@ kris

you stupid idiot x-box fan boy. who would want such crap, error-ridden product in the first place. don't call people who try to bring justice to the society stupid when you can't even post something that sounds intelligent. get a life, kid.

How stupid are you? It's easy to be crass when it's not your product that you spent hundreds on failing repeatedly.

It's not about whether people "Have a life" or don't - it's about being able to use a product you paid for when you want to use it.

In in my mid 30s, have a ps3, servers and a ton of other fun gadgets. I hardly play my 360 - but when I went to play it last it didn;t work, and has already been returned and repaired twice.

I don't want a stupid "30 day free on xbox live" card. I want a brand new console that works when i want to use it and keeps working

@GOD
So if you are going to partake in this lawsuit, are you going to give your xbox back to microsoft if you win? Do you really expect to get all your money back and keep your xbox? I have had mine repaired twice and still think microsoft has done an ok job getting these things fixed. I think you expect too much. Why don't you sell your old xbox and go buy one of the new ones with all the new hardware?

I got the red rings of death. so i sent it in and got it fixed. 1 month later and less than 10 hours of gameplay later i got the red rings of death on the refurbished console. Are you kidding. This is bs.

Dear Microsoft Boot-licker (AKA Kris):

As others have said before me, when we pay $400 for a game system, it would be nice if it worked and didn't have a catastrophic failure months after purchase such that we:
1) Lose all of our game progress;
2) Have to search for the receipt to effect a return;
3) Pay to ship the unit back;
4) Wait 30-60 days for it to be fixed and shipped back; and
5) Go through the whole process again when the fixed/replacement unit also fails.
Why won't Microsoft reveal the actual failure rates? Duh....maybe because people will see how bad the problem really is and not take any chances on the damn system again.
I have returned one unit with the RROD and my second attempt briefly showed the RROD within 2-3 WEEKS OF PURCHASE. Fortunately, I purchased an extended warranty from Target and I STORED THE DAMN PAPERWORK WHERE I CAN EASILY FIND IT. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to need it.
How sad and ridiculous. Is there anything more that needs to be said?

The main reason that the Xbox 360 has the RRoD is becaused they rushed it into the market. Due to poor soldering problems, poor system structure and design, and put a tri core that runs pretty much at 9000mhz of power thus causing it to overheat (nowhere for the hot air to exit) and killing the xbox 360 console. However microsoft has bent over backwards to help all of those who bought a 360. They basically made a mistake that is unrepairable.

I really feel for those whose systems died, and I don't know a single friend who is on their original 360 but me. I got a launch system, purchased on launch day, and to this minute (almost 3 years!) I haven't a single problem with it, and that includes 16 hour marathons when Oblivion came out. (Now that I've said it, it's probably gonna die tonight).

But no one seems to remember or care about Sony's horrible PS2 launch. Mine died in a year, and Sony could have cared less. No support and, really, no public outcry. I called MS support for some friends to get their 360s fixed and I must say they did a great job, aside from the long wait for an operator. They must've spent millions overnighting coffins and repaired systems out.. True, MS had to do a shoddy job on these systems for them to have such prominent failures, but I've gotta question how these systems are being taken care of?

While the 360 is a gleaming example of a rushed product and poor QC testing, wouldn't you take precautions if you were gonna buy a system you knew would most likely have problems? In my case, I raised my 360 on supports one inch off my entertainment system shelf to ensure good airflow (did this the first day I had it) vacuumed it regularly, and when not in use for some time, I made sure I vacuumed it before powering it on. Meanwhile, my friends killed theirs off by laying it on carpet, standing it up, leaving it on for days to D/L content, and poor housekeeping.

I might be lucky, but I'd like to think I learned my lesson on my PS2: Take care of your gear. Treat it like it cost $400...they aren't the Nintendos you fixed buy blowing carts and slamming them til they worked.

Got mine @ launch too. Took care of it as you did Kristian. Cleaned regularly, made sure it stayed cool, box & brick. Never had anything over a 5 hr session. Mine RROD'd on me a couple of weeks ago. Warranty's out.

I built my computer a year b4 I bought the 360. Play online for free, better graphics, and yes, most of all it still works. MS will get more money out of me if I buy Vista, not another XBOX unless they come clean. As a couple of you are, Im from the old skool too, my Atari & Genesis are still working (if I ever wanted to power them up again) & my 360 should as well.

I say sue'm, I don't care if I get $20 bucks back, & yes they can keep the XBOX and give the problem to someone else to deal with.

Its only right to refund a ploblem system that you knew was a problem from the start yep another red light of death victim you pay for a lot of cheap parts what do you expect bill gates is the richest now I see why he"s so rich the man not giving up a dime regaurdlesssw of how we fill Im sur we"ll just keep supporting him the rich get richer why the poor suffer hey face it thats just the way it is man I'll have to wait in line for mine to get repaired.Just another customer succered peace.

I'm on my 3rd RROD Xbox. I don't really care about the potential money if MS settles the lawsuit. It's more about bringing this to public light and shaming big corporations for not being accountable for the things they produce. If you release a crap product, you should be shamed and viewed as a crap company.

i don't know your story mate, but i am not made of money. i had heard a lot about these 360's and personally i have had some great times. here in lies a problem i bought the system 2 months ago and have already had these problems i cant afford to ship my 360 all the way there and wait bloody ages and expect a working console back when every other bugger is getting back still faulty consoles, i will simply get my money back and stick with my PC of 5 years.

sorry XBOX you lost me

refund me with a redesigned console not money, i liked my Xbox when it worked.

i don't want my money back i want what i payed $700 for, a reliable console.

I love it when people argue over this... Anyway, this is why I've been a Sony PS fan since day one. Microsoft with their buggy OS...not a surprise they produce buggy HW. But, I do think the lawsuit is sound. It one way to voice how unsatisfied customers are with a product when the company isn't doing much about it. Providing "free" repairs is one thing, but if they can't cut down manufacturing of the faulty machines, then something/someone isn't doing their job at Microsoft.

I seriously doubt the whiners are actual owners... just MS haters. I just experienced the problem after nearly 3 years of play. I filled out the form online. They sent a box with a prepaid UPS return label... all at no cost to me. It just took a few minutes of my time and a quick trip to drop the box off at a mail center. I currently own 3 game systems and have owned countless other electronic devices over the last 25 years and have never found it so easy (even free shipping) to get something corrected that was clearly out of warranty. Yes, they rushed to market (every good business owner does or they lose the opportunity) and they are paying for it but they are handling it at no cost to the customer and in a timely manner. If you say it cost you money or distress it seems to me you are lying about it. Since loss is the only grounds for a lawsuit I suspect you have a bunch of greedy lawers convincing a bunch of greedy consumers to exaggerate the truth so they can cash in and sit on their lazy butts playing video games for the rest of their lives. Kris was right... Get a life.

The problem for me is, I sent my xbox in back on october 23. This friday (11/14/08)I got in return someone elses Banged up Xbox instead of the one I sent in. So now after talking with xbox's great customer service this whole weekend after being cutoff cause their phones turn off at 10 pm and supervisors are lazy and don't want to really help you and blow you off (saturday 11/15/08) and today 11/16/08 After being on hold for over 30 minutes to be able to talk to a supervisor I got hung up on so I had to call back again and was now told to send in the xbox i got to receive the one i sent in so now i possibly have to wait longer than 3 weeks to get my original xbox back and the only compensation i will get is PGR3??? If you read the warranty book that comes with the console it states under exclusive remedy that "During the warranty period and subject to applicable law, Microsoft will, at its optionand your exclusive remedy for breach of this limited warranty or any implied warranties:

. Repair or replace a defective Xbox Product, or

.Following return of your Xbox Product, Make payment to you for the allowable damages that you incurin reasonable reliance but only up to the amount of the purchase price that you paid for your Xbox product. this refund may include a deduction for depreciation based on your actual use.

So Xbox does not honor what is stated above and is a good fight for the lawsuit cause when I disclosed this to the supervisor and stated what the warranty book says he would not do what is wriiten in their warranty book! So If anybody can send me any contact info for the attorney that is doing the lawsuit I would appreciate it! my email address is cadwell4 @ Yahoo . com

I should have proof read before hitting the submit button but here is more info on my situation.

When I told them either send me my Xbox back or send me a new one or the money to buy a new one he wouldn't at first but after arguing for over an hour with them he said he would have my Xbox shipped back to me but it would take over 3 weeks to do so. I also should have stated above that the Xbox I received was banged up and had scratches all over the cover of it and the back was still open alittle. I took care of my Xbox and they sent me someone elses that looked like they didn't take care of so you tell me you wouldn't be pissed if this happened to you. BTW i do own a PS3 and a Wii and I think my Xbox is much better then those! So I think I am in the right this time to be pissed at Microsoft for this situation!

Well my xbox's warrenty ended in May, and guess what. You got it, it just red ringed....again. This time I will have to pay for it though it looks like.

Where do I sign up for this?

After reading all these problems with the unit, I am surprised at how few comented on the bad customer service. I get told it is out of warrenty when the date of man. on the unit shows less than 2 years old. I can't get them to honor the warranty, then they say they will get a supervisor, who leaves me on hold forever. They are obviously in a foreign country and I think they don't care. I think it is shamefull the way they have handeled me.

I don't want money, I just want the product for which I paid $399, to work without having to send it in every 3-9 months for repair, that if it were any other company would disclose the type of failure. Microsoft Tech Support absolutely refuses to tell me what the problem is with my console. They describe it as hardware failure, that there is a component failing in my system. When I ask them which component it is, they inform me that that is confidential information. WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!! I OWN THAT CONSOLE. IT BELONGS TO ME!!!! I HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT IS FAILING!!!!! I you buy a car and something breaks under the hood, even if it covered under warranty, doesn't the shop tell you what the problem is???? This is why I'm so mad!!!! I'm a Certified Computer Hardware Technician. When I inform Xbox of this, they really shut up and give me no answer. Why is that?? Because they have a Sh@*$ty product that they know is gonna cost them in the long run, and they're now in damage control mode!!!!!

I could care less for consoles, but I bought a 360 for my kid that took a dump after less than a year. What piece of junk! I agree I just want something that works. I can't believe Microsoft could make such trash. If I could only convince my kid to stick to computers instead.

According to Microsoft, when we sent our xbox back for the RROD last year at this time, they NEVER RECIEVED IT. There was a mix-up with the ups tracking number. According to microsoft, we never sent ours back. That is where our nightmare began. During chistmas season, with rockband and other gifts to give our son on xmas morning and NO xbox to play them on. We fought with microsoft until the weekend before xmas. We had many people believing that we really did send it back and there was some sort of mix up at microsoft. Only it was not the people who could decide to send us another xbox. So what did we do out of desparation? We bought another xbox! That got us through chistmas. Then microsoft found ours. However, they would not reimburse us for the new one that we had to by. But it gets better. After about ONE month of owning 2 xboxes, the new ones hard drive failed. (Another problem they are known for). We had to send that one back too. As far as we are concerned, we have spent way too much money with microsoft to have sooooooo many headaches. And yes, you can say "Why did you buy another xbox when you know they are a piece of crap". The answer is this, We already invested so much money in games and accessories, plus.....that was the only gaming system that all the kids were playing on. I would have loved to have just bought a playstation 3. But he would have known nobody online. So basically microsoft had us by the nuts. We do have plenty of controllers from them as appology gifts. But what we really needed was our xbox back in time for chistmas.

For the record: Huge Microsoft Fan. I am MCE certified, holding MSDN memberships, and we use 6 licenced copies of Vista and 1 WHS in my home. We own 3 Xbox 360 consoles and all have had issues including RROD.

My experience with the Xbox 360 division of Microsoft has been dismal. My latest console was purchased last Xmas (Dec 12, 2007)(XBox 360 Elite) and had its 1st failure in May (2008),(RROD) which after a very simple shipping process and 4 weeks + wait, we received a REFURB (not same unit) back.

This unit made it until late August (2008), (RROD) when the REFURB unit failed. As before, got shipping label and paid for a box/packaging to send to Microsofts repair unit in Texas. This time a week goes by and unit is returned un-announced. Upon inspection, found unit to be same one and still had RROD on power up. I spent the next day talking with MS and explaining that I already had it when they had no record of them shipping one. Finally after another day of calls, they admitted that they had in fact mistakenly sent it back because (1) the REFURB unit they had sent in May (2008) was recorded as "out of warranty" according to MS records. In any case, after repackaging the unit and sending confirmation of the shipping thru UPS, MS sent another Xbox360 unit which arrived 1st week of September (2008). This unit was functional (seemed to be new, no marks or scratching). They also extended my warranty from original purchase date for another year (Dec. 2009).

This unit failed this past Monday (Dec. 8, 2008)(4 days from original warranty expiration!)
In calling MS, the current REFURB unit also was shown to be out of warranty (??) and that they could fix it for $120 (and 1 year warranty) or offered 75% off a new . Keep in mind that this unit was still under the 12 month P&L warranty! I have spent over 2 hours on the phone between yesterday and today and they have escalated this to MS hardware technical support after I disputed the warranty. What I found absolutely stuplifying was the absolute lack of proper record keeping during the past years 3 product exchanges! On the other hand, I had (was asked for) my original purchase receipt, all of my UPS receipts, and I had documented all phone conversations.

My current status is in wait and without use of our Home Theater for "Media Center" applications, "Netflix streaming", and of course "Gaming".

As others have mentioned, I want (and demand) a reliable working unit that my family can depend on. So far, I believe that Microsoft has failed in its duty to fufill the promise set forward in its product promotion, and therefore is guilty of selling a faulty product.

A side note as well: I work for a High End Audio/Video Systems Integration Company and can tell you that we would not sell (nor would we survive) by selling such a faulty product. Our Clients(as well as everyone should) demand a quality, reliable product. I am by nature of position a " decision maker" as well as a "technology enthusiast" and therefor both Clients and Friends/Relatives look to me for product purchasing decisions.

I got a xbox 360 for christmas from my sister the eyar it was launched. Before I even opened the box I was terrified of turning it on because of what I had heard in the few weeks after it came out. That first console got babied like nothing I have ever owned (and I take very good care of my stuff). It lasted for 2 years with some minor issues, never a RROD. Then in November 2007 it got the 3 red lights. I called support and got a refurb within 3 weeks. The console I got back (2nd) got three red lights within 10 minutes of being on. Same process, (3rd) arrives a couple weeks later and gets 3 red lights again within a couple days of getting it back. Perhaps stupid on my part I went and bought a completely new unit (based on the fact that newer consoles had newer/better chipsets that were more reliable). This console(4th) got the 3 red lights last night. After being on the phone with support for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours explaining that offering something worth 8 dollars (a month of live gold) was insulting to all those who bought and supported this console by buying games, paying for xbox live, etc. After that time on the phone the representitive (who surprisingly wasn't foreign-- i actually spoke to someone I could understand, had a grasp on the english language, and understood me) said that he emailed his supervisor and to call back in a couple days. When I say that it's insulting to offer me an 8 dollar product for all the problems, technical issues, time spent, etc-- I do not want a free game, or a free year of xbox live. I want a product that works and works reliably. Microsoft has failed to do that even three years after the product has innitially shipped. Instead of fixing the problem, they have tried to put a band-aid over it. It is unacceptable.

I just need to reiterate and support something that I read in someone else's post. Every single console I have ever owned all the way back to NES and earlier still works! The only console I ever had replaced was my dreamcast and that is because someone spilled beer on it! Liquid and electronics don't mix, so that failure makes complete sense. People need to take a stand and not support Microsoft. I hope they realize that in the next round of consoles NO ONE is going to buy the Microsoft system.

Hey there guys and gals,
As of this evening (17/12/08) my beloved xbox is showing the RROD. It is just under 2 years old (the first one bought for xmas 2006 but returned to the store as faulty a month or so later).
I have just contacted MS support and am awaiting notification of return processes. Thought it might be a good idea to use this as a 'test case' for all you other gamers. Will keep you updated as things progress. Lets see how they do.................

My status is waiting for console to come back to me, told it to is a refurb. My elite was mint and had an extended 3 year warrenty (I didn't buy it). When I got the RROD I was told that the insurers that the warrenty didn't cover this and to ring MS which I did. My concern is when I get my refurb will the insurers honour the three year warrent on a refurb unit? On relfection I suppose I should have smashed the inards and went with the insurers and maybe got a new unit.

Does anyone think that the new xbox experience has caused the RROD? Mine (and I've read a lot of others) died not long after updating.

My xbox RROD after 1.5 years... Called M$, they said they will send me an email with the shipping information... They never did, I had to call back... I shipped my console the same day I get the email. 2 weeks later I receive an email saying that they didn't receive my console... So I call back, they ask me the UPS tracking number, the 360 should be there, the guy tell me to wait.... I waited a week and called back, now the agent is telling me that they lost my console.... But he will submit a new request to have my console shipped + they game me a new controler for what I went through... I receive my new refurbish Xbox 360..... after 5 minutes of playing the sound will stop working or the rendering won't display specific graphic... I called M$ and they told me to reboot my console... I can't play now because I need to reboot every five minutes.... I live in a different juristiction, the law here would be 3 choices, brand new console, repair the old one, or refund. I will bring them to court....

MS Policy part I:
This Limited Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Latest update...got acknowledgement of the fault and confirmation of warranty eligibility within a FEW HOURS via e-mail...so far so good.
Within 24 hours had the UPS shipping e-mail to print off and return the console, but guess what? The links on the e-mail did not work, so I couldn't print off the returns label or receipt. Spoke to UPS and they said the e-mail is generated by Microsoft and they had cocked up!
Have just recontacted Microsoft and spent 10 minutes waiting for a new order number and e-mail to be generated. So the console hasn't even left my house and I am already on the second repair request number. Doesn't bode well does it.......?

Micro$oft. fail. Xbox. fail. Xbox 1.5 aka "360". fail. Case F*$@ing closed.
less than %1 of Playstations including (PSX, PS2, PS3) in history have "failed" or gone bad. Fact.
Only a country full of unenlightened brainwashed consumer idiots like the USA would put up with this rediculious nonsense coming from one of the most wealthy companies in the world. Just like people find its okay when Walmart pays them minimum wage meanwhile the corp is making over $250 billion a year. WTF??? Is this the same country where the average working person pays over %60 in taxes throughout their lifetime in all the diff taxes, yet they don't even get universal healthcare or quality public transport, or free University level education??? Welcome to America, where the above-average and high IQ citizens %3 to %5 take advantage of the rest. Let's all move to Dummyville, sit on the couch, watch TV, eat shitty overpriced pre-packaged foods and wave a fucking american flag around while we get fat and stupid. Fuck Micro$oft and their attempts to monopolize yet another industry. My industry, the Interactive Entertainment Industry aka Gaming . . . All M$ have managed to do is make all the developers a bunch of fickle and greedy uncreative gimps who care more about the bottom line than making a quality product. With the Exception of Kojima Productions and some other Developers.
RROD is a symptom of the major shift towards over commercialization of the gaming industry into a mainstream vehicle to raise the f$#king stock price for the parent companies who own the publisher/developers.

As some others have, we bought the first run of the 360. I had my fingers crossed when we tentatively prestarted it prior to giving it as a Christmas present all those years ago to our son. It lasted to early 08 and RRODed. So much for warranty. I opened it and found the only way to properly clean it is to void the warranty and open it. Heat sink had all kinds of crud on it (heavily used this 360 is). I pulled and reinstalled the heat sink and reworked the attachments that tend to "break the boards back" with significant preload. The system started and has run flawlessly to date.
As of today every single one of my sons friend (10 plus) that own a 360 have had at least one RROD. Even the ones that are 3 months old (the 360's not the kids). That is a 100% failure rate, admirable in the worst of hardware. Redmond, we have a problem. Sad to say if ours RRODs again we would need another with streaming and all. Pity it is so useful and entrenched or it would have to be fixed to be economically viable for Microsoft. Another tip of the hat to Billy boy. Who will develop the LinXBox 90 so we make a right turn to sanity instead of going around in circles with the 360? And now you know why it is called the 360.......buy, return, buy return, going in circles for 360 degrees of fun.

this is great...i had my xbox for mabye a little over a year (i got it Dec. 25/ 07) and breaks Dec. 28./08 before the 28th it worked flawlessly, it would mabye freeze once every 3 months or so but other than that it showed no signs of problems. on the 27th i was playing COD5 at about 2:00am, no freezing, no resting, and no signs of problems (Central Standard time) and then shut off for the night . the next day at about 1:00pm i went down stairs to play my 360 i turn it on and i get one red light flashing at the bottom right hand coner of the ring of light saying, error code E 74 please contact xbox support.error code E 74 means hardware failure meaning- broken hardware. BULL F*%@ING SH%#! it shows NO sign of ANY problems and it SOMEHOW breaks IN AN 11 HOUR PERIOD OF TIME!!! how the bloody hell dose that work?! i haven't even put a pice of paper on the thing, i treated it like a freaking pice of china! and it breaks in 11 hours...and i had just gotten Gears of War 2 and COD5 for Christmas...yeah...best Christmas ever. i called mircosoft and talked to a women who had an indian accent and talked like she was 5 miles away from me. i couldn't understand a @#*%ing word. i got everything i needed then hung up next morning i printed it out and i just shiped off today. a while ago I threw my gamecube out of a window to see if it would still work (i had just got the wii and gamecube was in mint condition) AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! i bet if i thew my xbox 360 out a window it would blow the the whole #$%*ING BLOCK OFF

I have had a 360 since launch date, and it just broke today. I thought I was one of the lucky few who bought one that wasn't actually defective. I stood up for M$ and told others that they should just take better care of their gear; "3 years and counting, and I have never had a problem" is what I said just over the holidays.....

But, of course, after just over 3 years and many, many, many hours of play, RINGS OF DEATH. My box starting freezing up; I restarted the system, played for about 10 minutes, then it would freeze again. The bluish tint, checkered screen you may have heard about is what I saw. Then, after a couple of restarts I saw red.

Luckily, the fact that my box is outside the 3 year warranty is NOT A PROBLEM. That's right, I called customer support, and they will accept a free repair and return regardless of the fact that my 3 year warranty has expired. They won't send me a box for shipping and they couldn't even email the shipping label: "this is a different exchange program" is what the Indian lady told me. Whatever, no complaints as of yet, so long as the damn thing gets fixed (permanently).

QUESTION: has anyone had any success with the "fix it yourself" eBooks that are all over the web? I might try that if the repair doesn't hold.

My roommate just recently bought the "fix-it-yourself" kit on the internet. They gave him cotton swabs, contact cleaner and silver thermal compound and bits of hardware. He then followed the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuIl0kGf7dM and repaired my 360. worked perfect first try. So if your 360 is out of warranty and you dont want to send it back. Give it a shot. Also had enough thermal compound to repair another one of my friends xbox. 30 days later still good, Will post updates as time goes on to let you know how long the fix holds for...

I had the RROD once, had the issue repaired by Microsoft and it was returned to me in perfect working condition. No problem. Then it happened again. Sent it in to Microsoft, they say they repaired it and sent it back to me, UPS says they delivered it, but I have no Xbox. Microsoft points finger at UPS, UPS back at Microsoft. I've filed a police report but the reality is that I am just out the hundreds of dollars spent on the console, accessories and games. I am currently selling all Xbox items and will be purchasing a PS3.

The issue isn't not being able to play; the issue is that I have been robbed. Neither Microsoft nor UPS are going to compensate me for the loss of this hardware. I am pursuing joining one of the class action lawsuits, but the real stupidity here is Microsoft lost an excellent customer in me.

I think that it's unjust that UPS can get away with just leaving it at your door without requiring a signiture. I orded a TV card from new~egg and UPS delivered it to the wrong house(same house address but two blocks away). So, NE sent out a new one. Well once UPS found out that they were going to be responsible to pay for the first one UPS called me and wanted me to file a police report. I just don't get it??? Anyways, I live in Washington State and I just sent in #2 XB360 for the RRoD. My first one was a "07," only to be replaced with an "06" ...now we will wait to see what the replacement is? I think that MS really screwwed us all by putting out a game device that wasn't thought out very well. I remember watching all the spotlite stuff they had on the designs and what it would do (gee, never once did they mention a short life span). All I can say is that they didn't put a lot into research...However, I look at how companys can make a lap top computer and they usually work without much problems (besides software. issues..i.e.MS software). I don't think it's asking to much to buy an electronic gaming device and actually have it work when you want to use it. It's ashame that for many fo us we are all experiencing mostly the same issues...and yet MS just puts a bandaide on it and sends it back as good....NOT!!!

Just to let you know that it is not just "2 weeks" and when it happens once a year it is kind of inconvenient.
My kids got XBOX games for Christmas this year and they had to wait ONE MONTH before they could even play them. I could see it happening just one time but when it is a continuous problem you would think that the company would try and fix the issue. Also, the customer service stinks!!!!!

Well, my 360 Elite RROD on me a few months ago, second 360 to take a shit on me. The first one didn't bother me too much, seeing as it was just a basic one with no HDD, and I didn't have a warranty, plus I bought it about a year after the 360 came out, so I kind of expected it to RROD. So I went and bought an Elite, because it supposedly had a better chipset, and was suppose to be more reliable, but it shit on me within a few months, and I took good care of both, like I do with all my electronic equipment. I am so fucking annoyed, why is it that my PS2 which I bought in 2004 still working fine, but the 360 I bought a middle of last year takes a shit after a few months. As much as I like the 360, I don't know if I can continue to support a console that has this kind of a problem. Sorry MS, but unless you can make the 360 a lot more reliable, I'm going to have to spend my money on a PS3 next time.

I bought my 360 Elite in April '08 (brand new $500) because I heard it had superior components and cooling. This was way more than I have ever spent on just a system plus I spent another $200+ on games, wireless adaptors, rechargable batteries and 1 year of Xbox live gold. I took better care of that system than I did my previous systems. I kept it in a room away from pets and children, no food or drink allowed near it, even started smoking outside so I would have no issues. My brother had bought one in his area (used) and we played online games. 2 days after Christmas, he calls me and tells me his RROD'd. Long story short, mine did the same thing 3 days later. We both sent ours in but he got his 3 days ago while I'm still sitting here waiting for the UPS guy to show up. He just called me up a few minutes ago to tell me his is freezing up and he can't play a full round of CoD5 without having to restart the console! Sometimes he has to do it 3 or 4 times just to get pass the start up menu!!
My point is I have spent well over $1,000 for this BS and I expect to be able to play for more than a few days at a time. After reading your posts, it looks like I'm going to have to get used to playing for a few days then sending it off for a month to be repaired. These people at M$ should be taken to criminal court not civil. I hope they send me a 360 that works real well so I can take all this crap that I have for and trade it in for a PS3.
I hope Bil Gates chokes on a silver dollar enema or his whole house traps him inside after it's operating system gets the blue screen of death. I hope the last thing he sees before going out is 3 flashing red rings.

My 360 had the RROD only 2 years after I bought the stupid console. I had to go through the process of finding the right-sized box and proper padding to ship the xbox for repair. This was really annoying because I had to do all this in the middle of my examinations period!

The 3 year warranty extension from MS is really a joke. When the warranty period is up, RROD'd 360 owners will either be stuck with a dead console or have to go through the trouble of organising their own repair. I hope MS comes to its senses and refund all customers with RROD'd xboxes.

In hindsight, I totally regret buying the 360. I've learnt my lesson; never again will I buy hardware from M$.

It's a sad thing for us that M$ made their Billions of $$'s off their XB360 customers. With M$'s record sales over the 08 holiday season it just not right that M$ has profited by selling such an unstable gaming system. Sure they are wiliing to cover their asses for one year (standard warrenty) and three years for the RRoD. Maybe now that M$ is stock is going down and that they are laying off employees...we will get justice through information leaks regarding XB360 issues by former empoyee's. We can only hope so. As for me...my number three refurb xb360 should be coming home anytime between now and monday. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a few hours, days or weeks of enjoyment from it before it's shipped back again. I'm sorry to say M$...you've lost yet another customer...no more products that always seem to have glitches. No more hardware that seems to always need updates. No more hard earned $$'s from this fellow. Instead, I'll invest in my gaming pc...I'll buy it a new gaming card, and a game pad and some games...from the $$'s I get from my XB360 gear and games.

**** xbox 360 rrod

My second xbox 360 just went belly up with the rrod.( both bought brand new from best buy) . Its absolutley pathetic that they keep putting these things out on the retail shelves knowing that they will fail in a year or less. I really hope microsoft pulls through with these latest editions. im gonna buy a 360 one more time and if it fails, thats it, im done.

I bought my first console back in March of 2005. Got the RRoD after about a year. Sent that in for repair and ended up selling it online for $150. Used that money to purchase a brand new elite console in May 2007. That one crapped out in April 2008. Sent it in got back a refurbished console. All of this and I wasnt really THAT upset. I mean it wasn't costing me anything to have it repaired or shipped. But then just last week the refurbished elite that I got back started flashing only 1 red light instead of 3 and had an error code of E74 on my screen. After some research I found out that this is 1 of three things. The Scaler chip, Graphics chip or GPU that has been fried. So I figured that Id call MS, they'd ship me a box to ship my console in and no problems right? Wrong. THey now want $99.99 plus tax AND I have to pay for shipping. Why on earth woould I pay $100 plus tax and shipping for them to send me ANOTHER refurbished piece of crap? It doesn't make any sense! I would much rather go by an Arcade 360 for $199 and slap my harddrive onto it with a new warranty. Plus get another controller and headset and everything. But im not going to do that. Because I refuse to invest anymore of my money in a piece of crap. I am looking to by a PS3 in March after Killzone 2 is released

The new RROD, RLOD! Just happen to me, less then a month after warranty goes out and not covered by the 3 year warranty for RROD. This is absurd.

IO got back my refurb 360 console on 1/26/09. Thus far it is working but, there is a lot of heat coming from it. This my third console too. It just pisses me off that M$ can not make a better console. Like many other folks around the world...we got ripped off once we bought these systems. It pisses me off even more to see that M$ has the nerve to sponser events, teams or whatever. It's just a means of suckering others into their plan of being greedy.

just got ours back yesterday and today it scratched a brand new game. the retards at xbox told me to takie the scratched disk back to walmart and say it was defective. they are sending out another pickup for the console and a lousy offer for a 20$ ACCESSORY instead of replacing a 60$ game. I am so ripped. Is there any class actions or recourse out there for the ripped off consumer? Its funny we got the rrod 3 days after the 1 year warranty expired. Now it scratched and before anyone says it, NO the console was NOT moved while the game was in it playing.;

My xbox had a cd-rom failure. Before I realized the cd-rom was about to fail, it scratched two discs in the process. Microsoft said they would replace my discs for free. DID THEY? NO!

Now, I have the red ring of death and I've only had my xbox back from repair for a couple months. This is my third failure. I will NEVER buy a Microsoft product again. Not even a PC. Their customer service services the customer by feeding them bull.

M$ is just giving everyone a crappy deal all the way. And to think they have the nerve to put ads on tv to try to get ore people to buy 360's. They have shown us that the 360 is not a a reliable gaming sytem. It truely is sad to have people spending money on a gaming system that is so poorly made.Heck, anyone who wants to buy a 360 should think twice before doing so. I hate how M$ denies that the updates for the 360 have nothing to do with failures...seems to ironic to me. Also, how they fail just shortly after purchase or after the warrenty ends. After all is said and done...we the consumer are the ones who got stiffed by M$.

What profit are they talking about. There is no profit on the console. They actually lose money on the console but make up for it in the game sales. This lawsuit is going to get $0.00 for anyone who tries to sign on.
