Yesterday, Microsoft took Xbox Live down at 12:01 AM Pacific Time for maintenance and upgrades in advance of promised "experience upgrades" coming later this Fall, including a widely anticipated new dashboard. According to Major Nelson, the outage was to last up to 24 hours, and the service would return looking exactly the way it did when it went down.
The planned outage was reported last week on blogs and tech news outlets like PC Magazine, and Major Nelson promised updates via Twitter of the current status, including an announcement when Xbox live was active again. Nelson delivered as promised, including updates when the maintenance took longer than expected, and when users could anticipate an update.
There must have been a large number of Xbox Live users who weren't aware of either the update, nor the statuses, however, as evidenced by Google Trends data from early this morning, which indicated users were concerned over the continued outage, enough to have search terms in the second and third most popular spots, as well as appearing farther down the list as well.

xbox is experiencing network issues and they are aware that some users cannot connect to xbox-live (meaning all of them) Max suggests that we wait an hour before trying to sign on again, but who really is going to wait that long?! also

are you american?, coz over here in UK, our servers and everything was fine, even xbox.com worked. :S lol
