The BBC highlights the British Red Cross's new method of educating the public about global issues. Rather than use a straight educational approach to draw attention to the issues, the charity turned to the producers of the "alternative reality" online show KateModern (who also produced lonelygirl15) to create a game.

The game, called "Traces of Hope," sends users clues via email, which link to websites that lead players on a quest to help reunite a game character with his family after fleeing the rebellion in Uganda.
