Healthcare solution provider GE Healthcare has selected Axway Asia Pacific's hosted solution to prevent counterfeit products from entering the supply chain.

According to the companies, Axway's Synchrony(tm) hosted ePedigree solution, will provide GE Healthcare's customers - healthcare professionals serving patients in clinics and hospitals -- online access to the complete pedigree of GE Healthcare's medical imaging and information products.

GE Healthcare's medical diagnostics trade relations and e-commerce director, Barry Daniele said that doctors and clinicians would be able to easily receive, sign and authenticate the pedigrees, thereby validating the chain of custody when accepting shipments to help prevent product tampering and diversion.

"GE Healthcare appreciates the responsibility our customers have in preventing counterfeit medical technologies from reaching their patients, and we are working hard to make that process as easy as possible," said Daniele. "We turned to Axway because of its expertise in the life sciences supply chain and its ability to provide additional supply chain solutions should the need arise."

Without traditional software costs

Axway healthcare solutions director, Kim Loughead, said that GE Healthcare would be able to give its customers detailed supply chain visibility without having to incur the cost, maintenance and infrastructure associated with traditional software applications. GE Healthcare could expect to realize traditional SaaS (Software as a Service) benefits including risk reduction, a significantly lower total-cost-of-ownership (TCO), and lower maintenance and IT skills upkeep.

"GE Healthcare works with more than 3,500 trading partners responsible for ensuring that only safe medical devices reach the community," said Loughead. "Axway's hosted solution is an efficient way to authenticate pedigrees across the entire partner ecosystem without making a significant investment in IT infrastructure."
