Sales of the Xbox 360 have doubled since Microsoft cut the pricing of the console earlier this month. An $80 price cut on the cheapest Xbox 360 prices it at $199, cheaper than the Nintendo Wii or the Sony PlayStation 3.
Following that price drop, some retailers are reporting a 100% increase in overall sales of all Xbox models from the prior weekend. On top of that, "some Xbox 360 models were selling at six times the rate they were the weekend prior."
No information on what the price slashing did to Microsoft's margins, but given the poor history of the Xbox 360's technical defects, this price drop may help bring even more gamers into the fold, especially with the all important holiday shopping season coming up.
