Global IP Solutions (GIPS) on Monday announced that its GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile technology is now available for licensing to iPhone developers.

This middleware enables iPhone developers to create software that will enable iPhone users to communicate using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology over Wi-Fi rather than conventional cellular voice services.

GIPS developed the iLBC codec standard. The company claims its VoiceEngine technology has been downloaded more than any other similar engine worldwide. GIPS' technology is designed to help optimize voice calls over the Internet even "under adverse conditions."
