To generate revenue, MotionDSP Thursday added a premium service that for US$2 allows users to download back to their computers high-resolution versions of the videos using FixMyMovie's automatic enhancement technology. The premium service makes the enhanced video's resolution as much as four times sharper than its original with double the frame rate. Using the premium service instead of the free service eliminates MotionDSP's logo from the video, encodes with high bit rates to preserve video details, and bumps up the file size to accommodate videos that are 100 megabytes with a 640-by-480 screen size.

Based on technology developed for video forensics like law enforcement uses, the San Mateo start-up's FixMyMovie improves resolution, corrects for poor lighting, and removes blockiness and other artifacts often a problem when filming with mobile telephones,consumer-grade video cameras, and amateur lighting. The new premium service also keeps intact the features of the company's free service -uploading, fixing, and sharing videos with friends or to Google'sYouTube® Web site and downloading a high-resolution, still JPEG image.

The company offers three versions of its premium service in AppleiPod®, Microsoft® Windows Media™ 10, and Adobe® Flash® 9 formats. The$2 fee entitles a user to receive all three versions of the enhanced video for use on their computer, mobile device, in post-production, or to share.

"After nine months of intense beta testing and awards from PC World, CNET, and Kim Komando (radio show host), we are confident that FixMyMovie is ready to become a source of revenue for MotionDSP without sacrificing any of the free features that have made the service so popular," said Sean Varah, Ph.D., chief executive officer of MotionDSP."We are delighted to unlock our restrictions and offer our community real value, while enabling us to achieve revenue from our patented technology. At $2 a video, we are very confident that most FixMyMovie users will take advantage of the new premium service features, similar to the model used by Yahoo® in their Flickr™ video service."

MotionDSP also makes the Ikena™ Reveal video forensic software.

FixMyMovie was launched at DEMOfall 07.
