After more than a year of fits and starts, Sony has finally settled on a rough release window for its PS3 Home service, reports Next Generation, citing an interview with PlayStation Network chief Eric Lempel. Sony will release the virtual world as a "fully robust service" in the autumn, says Lempel, under a "working beta" program.

This is actually confirmation of an earlier Sony statement that the Home beta would likely be opened up this fall. But by having a senior executive verify the timeline, Sony cannot afford to back away. The company has already hurt its credibility too many times with public statements about Home that eventually turned out to be false. The enthusiastic buzz in March 2007 gave way to disappointment and ridicule last December when Sony said Home would be delayed until the spring. The spring release was also cancelled, but now we apparently have a real timeline to work with.

The key word here: Apparently. Sarcastic Gamer sums up the skeptical attitude of many PS3 observers in the following post:

"Hopefully Sony will keep to their word this time and we’ll finally get our grubby mitts on a (somewhat) finished version of Home before the year is out. Then again, Sony will be Sony ..."

your late man!! next time be the first one to put a DATE.

Wow, stupid ..umm.. what he said

Readers: Never said there was a date -- note the "rough release window" ref above. I also stated that Lempel is confirming earlier information, per the link from April.

i remember the title said "DATE bla bla bla",u chnaged it or i got confiused by the google new title.

and bandwagoon is just a little kid who needs to think before saying stupid.

i meant google news title.

Ever heard the joke that S.O.N.Y. stands for Soon Only Not Yet?

They don't even want to release Home anymore. They realised that they worked on it so much, and it's still lame and nothing like they envisioned. If they release it now with all the hype, they know that everybody will be saying, "Sony what the hell is this? It sucks so bad!" Best just to sweep that mess under the carpet.

OK, so my last comment was pure speculation and probably incorrect but seriously, why bother releasing something just because impatient fools are saying hurry up hurry up! Those are the first people who will say "This sucks!"

lol inuk has a point

Hey 360 fanboys have your heard the joke that MS (Microsoft) stands for Made Stupidly!!! ain't that funny drrrd drrr drr lol

I've waited patiently for more than a year for the release of Home. I was invited to the beta yesterday.
I can't believe Sony has worked on this project for this long and it totally sucks, it is nothing more than a retarded game of the Sims. This will be deleted off the harddrive soon, takes almost 3gb.

Conclusion..... Don't give your hopes up, and focus on more important issues like the release of Socom!

wow, ur all stupid. what were you people thinking. something is free then the funds come from left over change or charity from other games. Why do you think it taken so long. 40 servers around the world. one server is supporting 5,000 PS3s.
PS: XBOX 360 only has to support united kingdom, Great Britian, and USA. Sony has to support half the world. JAPAN, USA, Great britian, United kingdom, Dutch, Germany, and France. China, italy, and Spain only have ten users, thats why their split off.
