AN Hosting, midPhase outage continues; company expects fix today

For the second day in a row, customers of midPhase and subsidiary ANHosting are reporting problems with the Web hosting services. The outages apparently started on Sunday, and were caused by "slight routing issues at our CIMCO facility," says midPhase's Marc Bollinger in a status blog post on Sunday evening. An update to the post on Monday morning identified a router at one of the company's data centers as being behind the current outage, and pledged to address the issue as soon as possible.

In an email to The Standard, Bollinger revealed more details about the outage, and gave an ETA for a fix:

"Our primary line from our datacenter to Equinix is down (City of Chicago is looking into it). We're currently running off of our redundant backup connection, which doesn't provide the same throughput as our primary line. We expect this to be resolved within the next few hours."

Customer reactions to the outages are mixed. An admin for the Big Island Forum appreciated midPhase's email notifications on Sunday, but another customer called the outage "ridiculously long."

Last month's outages at ThePlanet's hosting services prompted similar reactions, as well as criticism of customers who did not have their own contingency plans in place.

Were you affected by the midPhase or AN hosting outages? How do you think the company handled the situation? Leave your comments in the field below.

Today is the 4th anniversary (or is it blogiversary?) of our blog Tech PR Gems (http://techprgems.com), which we only recently moved off of Blogger.com to AN Hosting (and Wordpress). The reward? The site is down.

Hello,

My name's Nick Nelson, and I'm one of the managers at ANHosting/Midphase.

I've spoken with our Network team and they informed me this outage is now recovered. From what I can understand of the situation, the initial issue was the 45 minute outage surrounding the transport link.

However, we then suffered another, more isolated outage, which only affected a few servers, that was ultimately repaired at 8.30 am this morning.

At this time, all is repaired, we do apologize for the outage, and I invite everyone affected to contact me regarding credits for your inconvenience.

Thank you for your business!

Nick: Thanks for your update. I just wanted to let you know that I sent your comment to one of your customers, who reported that things still weren't operational for his site.
