To push the search technology yet another step forward, Adobe is now working with Google and Yahoo to make Flash content searchable in online search. This effort would enable searches on Flash content to return text and links, which can then be indexed, thereby making it available in search results.

Infoworld reported that content from a Flash application, a game or advertisements will also be available to search engines. The pages returned in search would be those containing a Flash .SWF file. Google has already implemented this, while Yahoo is expected to enable Flash search in a future version.

Google says that if the Flash files only include images, it will not recognize or index any text that may appear in those images. It does not even generate any anchor text for Flash buttons that target some URL, but which have no associated text. The FLV files are also not indexed on Google, these include the videos that play on YouTube, as these files contain no text elements.
