When Steve Jobs announced the price of the new iPhone 3G at $199 worldwide, everyone knew it would sell well. Now we have some of the first indications as to how high demand is.

According to the Telegraph, last fall when the iPhone first went on sale in the UK, 35,000 signed up to receive more information on the iPhone from UK iPhone partner O2 in the three months between the announcement and it going on sale.

In the week after the 3G announcement at the Worldwide Developer Conference on June 9th, more than 130,000 people have shown interest in the new phone.

Unlike AT&T in the United States, O2 will be giving away the new iPhone to some subscribers on some high-end phone plans.

I registered interest but the novelty's kind of worn off now. There's just too much wrong with the iPhone for me so I think I'll get an N96 when it comes out instead.
