The next generation of Mac OS X, titled "Snow Leopard" won't support the company's PowerPC-based computers, which it stopped selling several years ago. The system requirements were in documentation distributed to developers under an NDA at WWDC this week.
The shut-out of PowerPC had been rumored for a while and signals the end to a major chapter in Apple history -- namely, the PowerPC generation which traces back more than 10 years to the original Power Macs in the mid 90's.

Not too much of a surprise, considering the the PPC computers haven't sold for a while. It's difficult to maintain an OS for two different instruction sets, not to mention the fact that Apple will have a material benefit towards cutting off PPC users.... They will have to buy a new computer! (All of my Macintosh computers are PPC, I've been holding out on upgrading as long as possible to conserve cash.)
