If it takes a killer Web domain name to create a profitable Web site, then online entrepreneurs might want to peek at the latest round of topical domain names being offered at auction by online vendor Moniker.com.

With gasoline approaching US$4 or more a gallon around the U.S., the domain name GasPrices.com will soon be up for auction starting at $200,000, while Israel.com is slated to start at $5.5 million, just in time for that nation's 60th anniversary.

Both domain names will be among dozens of "premier" domain names that will be auctioned starting May 23 by Moniker.com at a simultaneously live, online and telephone event in Orlando, Fla., according to the Pompano Beach, Fla.-based company.

Other domain names to be offered for sale include Action.com, Grass.com, Idol.com, Pay.com, Susan.com, Koran.com, Jackpot.com, BlueRay.com and InsuranceRates.com. Mental health groups might be interested in bidding on the domain Anger.com, while personal injury attorneys might want to check out BodilyInjury.com. Academic groups might want to explore HonorRoll.com, while auto detailing shops might want to buy CarWax.com. The whole list of names up for auction can be found at Moniker's Web site.

While the most highly valued names will be auctioned May 23, many other domain names will be available in an "extended auction" that will continue through May 29. A separate online auction for domain names that have low or no-reserve prices will be held Tuesday.

Previous Moniker.com auctions have sold domain names such as Porn.com, which went for $9.5 million last May. At that time, it was the second-largest price ever paid for a domain name, after the $12 million paid for Sex.com in 2005 in a private sale.
