Service: Kaltura

What it does: Provides Web-based collaborative tools for the creation of videos and slideshows. Kaltura comes with a library of images, audio and video clips, or users can upload their own media for collaborative projects.

Why it will succeed: Collaborative media creation is going to be big. Really big. It will impact online media sharing in social media and social networking. As Web 2.0 embodied collaborative social platforms, Kaltura progresses on this concept and helps users easily create individual multimedia products by the hands of many participants. Kaltura has smartly integrated into other social networks such as Facebook, where users can create collaborative media using the content available in their Facebook accounts. Management has also put together partnerships with Wikipedia and several other sites, positioning itself for further growth as this trend takes hold.

Why it hasn't succeeded yet: The collaborative Web space is still focused on task-oriented applications, and hasn't fully realized the potential for a more casual approach to collaborative multimedia.
