Ian Lamont manages editorial content on TheStandard.com, including news and analysis, and authors The Social Enterprise Blog, which discusses technologies and trends in enterprise collaboration, communications, and community. He works closely with management, developers and partners to improve the site's content, create new services for readers, and devise strategies that set The Industry Standard apart from other technology publishers. In 2009, the Standard won three Best in Business awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) in the project, blog, and creative use of online categories, as well as a gold "Tabbie" in the online feature category from Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABPI).

Ian has worked for a number of media companies in the United States and overseas, including the China Television Company, the China News newspaper, Taiwan's Central News Agency, Network World, and Computerworld. During the nearly three years he worked at Computerworld, he helped develop, launch and manage several new editorial services, including Shark Bait, Tech Dispenser, online video, podcasts, and blogs. He was named in the silver ASBPE award Computerworld received for interactive community in 2008. Ian's Computerworld blog, The Digital Media Machine, examined 3D technology, virtual worlds, Chinese Internet trends, and other new media topics, and was recognized in the award Computerworld received for "Best Blog" in the 54th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards Competition. He also blogs about technology on his personal blog.

Ian received his undergraduate degree from the Boston University College of Communication and his masters from the Harvard Extension School. For his graduate thesis, he designed a computer content analysis that used China's state-run media to gauge Chinese foreign policy priorities in the post-Mao era. He has completed additional coursework in Mandarin and information technology at the Taipei Language Institute and the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College.

I am a member of the advisory board for Immersive Education, a nonprofit organization which seeks to develop best practices and standards for education in virtual worlds. From 2002 to 2007, I was involved in development and promotion of the Media Grid, a initiative related to iED that grew out of my part-time student status at Boston College.

I use Google Adsense and the Amazon Associates program on my personal blogs. These help recoup domain registration fees and other costs associated with running the websites.

I have small stock holdings in three publicly traded companies, which I will not list here for security reasons. Only one -- an Asian computer company -- has an obvious technology connection, and I have never written about it or any of its direct competitors while employed at Computerworld or The Industry Standard (I purchased the stock when I was working in the higher education sector). For my retirement accounts, I own shares of various mutual funds and ETFs, but do not actively monitor what technology companies they trade.
