I've always preferred Google video over YouTube, better quality video and more professional look and feel. I have a lot of videos hosted on Google which are embedded into various websites it works great and allows me to have masses of video at zero cost. I wouldn't mind paying a subscription fee the service is good, it would be a real pain to find, organize and reload all my videos elsewhere. Having entrusted all my videos to Google I would be really disappointed if at some point they were to pull the plug. (that would be EVIL!) and they promised not to be that, squeezing me into paying something for the service would be the lesser evil

Google drops Shopping link and replaces it with Video on the Google navigation toolbar. A sign perhaps that Google Video moving up as video search tool?

As an educator I was using this site to provide information for students. With drastic budget cuts this really hampers educational efforts. I encourage google to continue to partner with educators.

@Jesse, great question. If Google folds its existing videos into YouTube or turns it off completely, we can judge this Google Video as "shutting down." Google Video may very well transform into a different product, but if its original plan as a video-hosting site ceases, then we'll rule this favorably. I'll clarify the language of the prediction.

How will this judgment be rendered if Google video morphs into something new, but still under the "Google Video" banner? For example, if they discontinue hosting their existing videos, but retool the site as an internet-wide video search, does that qualify as "shut down"?

It sounds like that is what they're focusing on and what it really should be. As good as Everyzing, Blinkx, Digitalsmiths, and VideoSurf are, I still find searching for videos online frustrating.

Google Video is on its last legs. (Note: Google Video is different from YouTube.) In mid-January, Google discontinued five products - Notebooks, Dodgeball, Jaiku, Google Mashup Editor, and Google Catalog Search. At the same time, Google announced it would discontinue uploads to Google Video.

Google says it will still host videos that are already uploaded to the site. At the same time, Google urges users to check out "YouTube's dynamic global community."

Last year, No. 2-ranked community prognisticator David Kuan ran a prediction that Google Video would be discontinued. The prediction did not come true, but certainly it was on the right path. So here's another shot.

Prediction: Google will shut down Google Video by the end of the 2009. A favorable judgment will be rendered if the big G rolls Google Video into YouTube. A shutdown, in this sense, means Google will remove any content it hosts on Google Video.
