Based on how the stimulus package is being handled, it appears that congressional republicans are geared to playing partisan politics. Unfortunately, opposing the president solely on partisan basis will hurt the people. I pray that congressional republicans will set aside politics as usual, and cooperatively work with democrats and the president to find solutions that will help the United States of America. The issues at hand are too dire for partisan politics.

@Ally, are you also 100% sure that the filing was accurate. Perhaps, IRS may have found certain deductions invalid or income not reported. If you e-filed, you could may have been flagged for in-depth analysis which may lead to an audit. I do hope you get your refunds soon though.

Unfortunately, the structure of the government is built that way where the Executive branch has executive rights and the Legislative branch has the legislative rights. Having two Congress (Senate and House) offers yet another level of bureaucracy that is well-intention but presents a situation where certain level of pork is unavoidable in order to accommodate passage. Until line item veto becomes executable, it is almost impossible to remove ALL pork! No matter how well intention an elected public official is, there is always a partial position to his/her constituents which to others would be considered as pork.

WASHINGTON, Feb 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate will try to debate the $789 billion economic stimulus bill on Thursday, as Democrats push to get the legislation to President Barack Obama within the next few days, Senate Assistant Majority Leader Richard Durbin said.

"It is our intention to try to bring it up for consideration today," Durbin said. Durbin did not say whether the Senate would vote on passage the same day.

Top aides in the House of Representatives said that chamber would likely debate and vote on the bill on Friday.

Each and every American citizen does have an opportunity "to vote on these issues..." We do it by electing Congressional representatives who become our voice on a multitude of issues (the Stimulus bill being just one of many). That is the American way: Democracy; democratic government.

With regard to your tax refund problem and you attributing it as somehow being President Obama's fault, well, you lost me there. Your line of reasoning seems nonsensical. Are you due a refund? Do you owe back taxes? Are you angry because you had to pay taxes and feel that you should instead be getting a refund? Did your refund check get lost in the mail? And, how would your answer to any of the preceding questions somehow = Obama being at fault?

This is crazy..Obama has people in his cabinet that owes the Federal Goverment, yet hasn't paid (wonder if I could just say "I'm Sorry"). Yet he wants this package to pass which is loaded with pork (I don't give a rats behind about a water park) and cost the American People about $209,000 per person.
WHAT IS HE THINKING? ARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SO NAIVE THAT THE WOOL CAN BE PULLED OVER THEIR EYES SO EASILY? I filed my taxes and can't even get my refund back. IS THIS THE CHANGE WE SHOULD EXPECT? This is crazy...this bill has passed and isn't going to do a thing for the american people. Judgment made on Feb. 16, 2009: President Obama's stimulus bill was passed on Feb. 13. The community has overwhelming judged this prediction correctly. -- The Industry Standard

Original prediction: President Barack Obama is pushing Congress to vote on a $825 billion economic stimulus package that would create more than 4 million new jobs and provide $275 billion in tax cuts. The House is expected to pass the bill on Jan. 28 while the Senate will vote on a separate version of the stimulus bill the following week. If the House and Senate pass different versions of the bill, both chambers must approve a new conferenced bill.

Obama, who met with Fortune 500 business leaders including IBM, Google, and Xerox on Jan. 28, said "we don't have a moment to spare" in passing the bill. Democratic leaders are pushing for the stimulus bill to get in front of Obama to sign before the Presidents Day recess. That gives Obama a little more than two weeks to get the stimulus package signed off.

Prediction: Despite vocal Republican opposition, Obama's stimulus package will get fast tracked by Feb. 16, Presidents Day, from both the House and Senate.
