MacWorld 2009 has ended. No announcement made. Apple is now 4 months late from its September '08 date for service restoration.

We have to wait on this until the end of the conference before making a judgment. Considering the level of chatter heard prior to the keynote around this, I am a bit surprised that it didn't come true (the community is obviously more informed than I am on this). Ah, for Netshare to return to the App Store...

iPhone Push Notification Service restored by Macworld?

Judgment made on January 12, 2009: The community correctly predicted that Apple did not restore its Push Notification Service. Some iPhone customers still bummed out. -- The Industry Standard

Original prediction: Everyone is waiting for Apple’s answer to background tasks on the iPhone (known as "push notification"). This service requires Apple servers to "ping" your iPhone when an app needs to update.

After much hype about the Push Notification Service, critical issues and customer complaints resulted in Apple halting the service.

This type of service, where third-party apps other can run in the background, is currently found on several other mobile OSs, most notably Google's Android mobile OS.

A planned resolution in firmware 2.1 was pulled in August, and there are no indications as to when the service will be restored to iPhone customers.

PREDICTION: Apple to restore Push Notification Service by the conclusion of Macworld 2009.
