The New York Times reported its overall July revenue fell 10.1 percent mostly due to a drop in print ad revenue. Overall ad revenue fell 16.2 percent but the hardest hit was the New England media group, including the Boston Globe -- where ad revenue fell 24.5 percent.

Online revenue was the one small bright spot for the Times Co., specifically in the News Media Group, where it rose 0.9 percent. It may seem small, but considering the state of the industry, growth anywhere is something to tout. Overall Internet revenue rose 2.6 percent, driven partly by gains at About.com. Online advertising revenue from the News Media Group is rising in August resulting from better display advertising revenue at NYTimes.com.

The Times said year-to-date revenue from continuing operations has fallen 6.1 percent to $1.73 billion.
