AT&T launches in-home tech service, ConnecTech

AT&T today launched a 50-state in-home tech support service for just about every electronic device in your home. The program, called AT&T ConnecTech, is a residential only -- no business customers -- and will compete head on with Best Buy's Geek Squad.

AT&T's technicians will fix customer's computers, assist with setup of new AT&T products and others as well. An AT&T spokesman told us that the company wants to strengthen its relationship with customers. AT&T's mission is "to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work, and do it better than anyone else."

I'm not sure if I buy that, but it could allow AT&T to take a chunk out of a the home-electronics service industry which is currently supplied mostly by individual consultants and small mom and pop companies.

ConnecTech will assist customers with just about anything they need help with, including hanging "your flat-screen TV for you if you ask." Other services include custom installation of home theatre equipment, wall-mount speaker installation and assistance with other digital products like digital cameras and MP3 players.

Prices start at $69 and ConnecTech customers don't have to be an AT&T customer to use the service.
