Facebook didn't launch a payment system but redesigned the website

The website redesign is being carried out by Facebook that invites users to preview and test the new features. The participants to test the pilot version are to compare the current appearance of the site with the new design while all the users will have access within the following months. The ideas on improving the website came from the feedback from Facebook users. The changes include the increased use of feeds and the Wall feature of profiles and a new Publisher feature that brings together all of the core applications for uploading photos and videos and writing notes. Improvements were also applied to a navigational structure with more use of tabs. Besides privacy was taken under better control as well. "We've made the changes rolling out today in order to highlight the most recent and relevant information that users value, give users even more control and ownership over their profiles and simplify the user experience," commented Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Place your bets, hugh? It will be proprietary. Never got that “Facebookie” but, there is a tool to purchase Gifts with plastic right? A clever beta test for a AR tool. (a.k.a. FB “Paypal”) As for Amazon like partners, it behooves FB to partner with everyone. They can turn into e-commerce consignment shop, ha. Don’t think it’s that big of a secret, 3rd party (cheap!) public Grids are starting to pop up that utilize Quickstart FB Servers. Open Source e-commerce..? Get your spam blockers ready!!! You’re not that sneaky Zuckerberg.

@Chris, understood. Thanks for the clarfiication. IMO, this still looks fairly favorable that it will happen. Otherwise, F8 would not be as successful as it should be. Don't think Facebook want that to happen.

This definitely didn't happen. The community was correct. --The Industry Standard

Facebook will be holding its second annual F8 conference in San Francisco on July 24th, where one year ago it launched its Developers Platform.

Now many, including The Standard, anticipate that Facebook will be launching an e-commerce system to supplement the increasing numbers of applications available to Facebook users.

The Washington Post stated on June 11th that Facebook had been working on some form of e-commerce for applications, but didn't say if there was a plan to show it at F8.

For this prediction to be judged favorably, Facebook must announce official plans to bring the system out of development and open it for public use in Facebook applications at or before F8. The e-commerce system can be a partnership with Paypal, Amazon, some other outside service, or be a completely proprietary system.
