Palm Centro adds Verizon, aims to sell two million units this year

Palm announced its Centro smartphone will be coming to Verizon’s network tomorrow. In addition, Palm told investors they plan to ship two million Centros by the end of 2008.

According to Reuters, Palm has already shipped 1 million units by March, so an estimate of 2 million seems conservative. Then again, considering the new, cheaper iPhone releasing in July, which trumps the Centro in features, and the Blackberry, which has a stronger enterprise install base, the Centro might find itself without much of a market outside diehard PalmOS fans, or users looking for the cheapest smart phone on the market ($99 or less with contract).

One interesting new feature Verizon will provide, for an extra $30 dollars per month: The Centro can be tethered to users laptops, allowing them broadband access over Verizon’s EVDO network.
