David, you make a good point, but this is for the same 12-month period -- comparisons of this sort are intended to cover the same time frame, and it's pretty obvious that Nokia is indeed intending to unseat the iPhone juggernaut -- not simply beat the iPhone's 2007-2008 sales.

However, whether that actually happens with the Tube/5800 remains to be seen -- Apple had a product update in the same time frame (the iPhone 3GS) and there are a slew of other products hitting the market right now, including the Palm Pre and Nokia's own N97. One other note: This prediction may be difficult to judge -- it depends on reliable sales figures from Nokia and Apple covering the time frame in question. If I can't do it, I will refund $S to people who haven't already cashed out.

@Bradley and TIS, please clarify this prediction. Is the comparison to be made between first 12 months or the same 12 months? It is somewhat unfair to compare the limited rollout of Tube vs Apple iPhone which has extensive rollout. So, IMO, comparing the first 12 months of Nokia Tube vs first 12 months of Apple iPhone makes more sense.

World-leader Nokia has a history of producing high-selling phones that are available on the networks of a number of different carriers. This prediction is that the yet-to-be-released Nokia phone codenamed "Tube" will outsell the Apple iPhone during it's first 12 months of availability.

The close date of this prediction will be amended to be 12 months following the first release to public sale of the Nokia Tube (expected in second half of 2008).

As soon as reliable sales figures are available this prediction will be judged.

This prediction will be worth S$100 if Nokia Tube sales over that timeframe are greater than Apple iPhone sales (including both 2G and 3G versions of the iPhone, assuming both are available), and S$0 if the Apple iPhone sales are greater. These sales may include both U.S. and international sales combined.
