UPDATE: The Standard attedended Mark Zuckerburg's QA session at Pangaea to see if any further news would break concerning the rumored music store/service. The community was correct - there are no plans at this time.

Techcrunch wrote this morning that “Rumors surfaced again yesterday on Billboard and today in other media outlets that Facebook is in talks with the record labels to launch a music service that will include either free ad-supported music streams or paid downloads.”

iLike already produces such an application, and it is hugely popular. Both iLike and Facebook will have a big presence at SXSWi, so should make for some interesting cocktail party run-ins. . .

This is a prediction that Facebook will announce a music store or music based service (or equivalent application or feature set, as judged by the Standard’s editors) at SXSWi. This prediction will be judged on March 11, 2008 at the end of SXSWi, or earlier depending on breaking news developments.
