Q2 Haiku

The profit warnings
surprised you because you were
a deaf, blind ostrich

Paris in the spring
Alcatel dreams of marriage
Lucent gets cold feet.

Heartbreaking Napster!
You were too good to be true
and, post-lawsuit, suck.

Now you do the math:
White House + Enron =
more oil drilling

I guess I'll eat cake
That's what I will do with my
three hundred dollars

Tinseltown shocker
(at Spago they're still talking)
Semel at Yahoo!

Up two hundred points
after crashing three thousand?
Some Nasdaq rally.

Two half-point rate cuts,
conventional wisdom says,
will save us. Or four.

The Street seemed to like
one thing and one thing only:
IBM earnings.

In Chambers we trust.
Would Cisco not otherwise
trade south of 13?

In merry England
a fresh resonance cleaves to
the phrase "where's the beef?"

Bankrupt Warnaco
made nice Calvin Klein T-shirts
but not much profit

Now you understand
"long-term strong accumulate"
means "sell sell sell sell"

Acid-tongued blame game -
more than just tires split between
Firestone and Ford

How quickly things change.
May: busy dot-com Veep. June:
counting syllables
